Millet 4,497
Has any one had there dog done and how much did it cost...and could the price vary depending on the weight and size of dog..
patterdalejoel 669
price is all the same as its the same op.... its the anaesthetic that would be more expensive if the dog is bigger as more would be needed im guessing, and at mine they charge you seperately for that... dogs-n-natives 1,182
Price varies a lot from vet to vet. Id say 40-60 quid up here Millet. Id never get one of mine done though seen so many dogs turn into fat useless lumps, losing all their 'go' in the process
Millet 4,497
One is a 10yr old retired Lurcher the other a big terrier..the reason i am considering it is i have a bitch lurcher and they all live indoor's..i don't want to get her neutered just yet..and it is a nightmare keeping a eye on thing's when they is youngster running around leaving door's open..it's not just the chance that she may be accidently lined..they is also the chance of fighting as both dog's can be aggresive toward's each other when the bitch is in season..i had castration mentioned to me by a friend and it seem's the sensible thing to do..i just need more time to think it over.. beast 1,884
chemical castration does work (there are different drugs and some work on different processes in the dog) but are only really of value as temporary measures as they can have long-term effects and also work out very expensive over time. millet get the dogs cut, should only be about £50-60 and although yes they are more prone to run to fat, you can manage that easily enough with sensible diet and exercise. i've had a couple done over the years, no real problems, i think they only lose their drive and energy IF you allow them to get overweight. good luck
Dawn B 212
What about chemical castration? I think its called Tardak? Thats very out of date now Gnipper and it uses female hormones which can cause issues in itself. MILLET. There is an EXCELLENT implant used widely now called "Suprelorin" It lasts for 6-12mths depending on which implant you use. I use it on two males here and they never look at the bitch in season. Their behaviour remains normal, their coats are unchanged (Border Terriers) they do not lose muscle mass, nor have they ever gained an ounce of weight. You can have it done again and again if you choose. You could have one implant each and if you like the effects, have the castration done as the permanent solution, but being mature dogs, it may not have the desired effect, so the implant would be a good way to find out and of course its completely reversible. http://www.peptech.com/HTML/Animal_Health/Superlorin_Uses.html
Millet 4,497
Cheer's for that Dawn.. ..but i'm swaying with the idea to get them chopped off.. ..my brother had a terrier done a few year's back but it also had a ruptured anal wall where the anal gland's are and it cost him around £300..it did not stop the terrier from being a horny little git but i know i will be 100% certain that he could not line a bitch.. . Any dog should be allowed to mature first.
