Neither-

Landrover!

Cheapest to repair!

Either a Defender or if Mrs is using it too, a Discovery - Bit more comfort.

If it was purely for a crawling about shooting wagon, I would have said an old series <1974 No Road Tax, take loads of abuse and the expensive parts are less than £100.

I borrowed a new defender last night and it was the worst lamping truck I've ever been in, with regards to actual shooting out of the truck. Granted, it will take you just about anywhere but I felt I was fighting it all the time. I drive a freelander comersial and I prefer it. More room and much better shooting position, and a better drive. It won't drive across a ploughed field like a defender but I only really drive stubbles and headlands and grass fields. It's more like a chunky van really. My mate has an old diatsui and that's seems ok too.

I second that,

i drive a 1972 2.25D series 3 landy as my main car, for work the lot (mad i know), love it, the best thing is the waves and nods of approval you get for driving them, and the fact people give you the right of way all the time regardless as they know the brakes arnt that good  ,

on a serious note, my mate had a grand vitara great all round 4x4, but apparently they can have dodgy electrics so watch out, im a fan of discovery's 300 tdi's, fuel consumption not too bad for a 4x4, comfortable, not too pricey, will go almost anywhere a defender will plenty of room in em for the lads, dogs and guns as well
