Gold Day for me and the AA s400 thanks to Si and Davy.

Recommended Posts

You might be aware that i have been lucky enough to of had my gun and scope set up by Davy Thomas and Si Pittaway, for that i am so so grateful. They have set-up my gun/scope to be zero'd at 30 yards, they have also given me the trajectory infomation at all ranges.

Well what non of you will of known is that my older sister is unwell. After a lifetime of caring she now finds herself in need of care herself. After our mum died my sister has been left in the house on her own, now what with the lonelyness and being unwell has left her with some dark thoughts. So i am going to visit her more and more to keep her company and also to make sure that her dark thoughts stay that, thoughts.

Any how at the bottom of her garden are some trees and a ditch, i have lazered the trees and found them to be 40 yards away (forgive me but i'm old and still use imperial) from my seat in the conservatory. We were sat in the conservatory chatting, drinking tea (coffee in mine) and watching the Red Kites that fly above the fields at the bottom of her garden. I have my gun next to me to shoot pigeon that land on her bird table. Then all of a sudden there was the unmistable cackle from Magpie, up to then it had not dawned on me that i had left a decoy at the top of her gazebo. There was three Magpies sat in the tree's cackling at the decoy, so i raised my gun to shoulder. As soon as i looked through the scope i knew that it was on to small a magnification, so one hand game came off the gun to adjust the magnification. Well looking through the scope i found the three noisy guests, which one should i pick. I decided to have a go at the quiet one as his head was stiller.

So sat in my chair in the conservatory, firstly i cocked my gun then with my left wrist pushing hard against the door frame. So i had the wrist pushing hard against the door frame put i had to then allow a lightenough grip on the gun, i lined my scopes mil dot on the head of the quiet magpie. My index finger of my right hand had taken up the triggers first stage, trying to (without much success) control my heart beat and drawing a breath of about half lung capacity. Holding breath i then took aim on the head of the quiet one and the slowly squeezed the second stage. When my scope is set up with this magnification with the right circumstances i am able to see the pellet hit its target, i see the pellet hit the magpie in the back of its head and he just fell of the branch. I set my gun down and went to if it was dead, he was stone dead so picked him up and laid him down on his back with wings open.

So back to my coffee and conversation, less than half an hour have passed and the black an whites are back. So pick the gun while spotting for them, this time they were a little higher than before. So this time i decided to give him a mill dot plus the width of the line, yet again the result was the same. Walking down to check on it i found that he had fallen into the ditch. So with it being about 5 foot deep with steep sides, where he fell is where he'll stay. Back to my coffee, 2 to me.

Now back to coffee, talk and the Olympics. COME ON BRADLEY. Bloody hell what a time for the magpies to come back, pause the race and go and see. There are four this time and one is on the lower branch like the first. Again one mildot under, action replay but one difference which was, as he fell one of his mates took his place on the killing branch. He copied the rest of his journey aswell. Final score Roger 4 magpies 0

Well not only can Bradley win gold i can have them aswell. So i would like to pay homage to Si and Davt for setting my gun up to be this accurate. The only camera i had was my mobile and although i can take photos, i have no way of dowloading them.

Nice shooting. Like Stuart I hope your sister gets better. Well done Si and Davy on helping out a fellow shooter. It just goes to show what a great forum this is and that there are still good people out there willing to lend a hand :)

Is that a .22? That's quite a far zero. Superb result. Could use the dead as decoys now!

I think Roger made a typo mate as it was zeroed in at 30 yards with each increments on the scope representing a 5 yard distance further.

So he is calibrated from 10 yards out to 50 yards.

Very nice shooting Roger buddy.

I'm glad you are getting the results now.

Si.

Milegajo, zero corrected.

Villaman, Thank you.

Stuart, Thank you for your kind words. As for my sister, she will never get better. The doctors from the hospital have told her, she has real trouble if she does anything to get out of breath, even getting up steps knock her for six. She has recently started falling over for no reason, so thats another worry.

Elliott, Thank you
