secretagentmole 1,701
Well a neighbour of ours who is not overly rich but a thoroughly decent bloke, got given (we still think he bought it) a BSA Mercury, well the action looks like a metal toothed Rottweiler used it as a teething toy, the barrel is held onto the cocking action by welds that would not look out of place on the bulkhead of a car, the action was loose on the stock, the sights had been removed, a nice gun, not... Well we have been in his debt a long time, when we had the high winds a few years back mother left the back gates open and unsecured, they blew open taking the brick built gate posts down. He dragged the gates and the rubble out of the road for mother, so we owed him a lot. He is always the first to give a hand, lend tools, help where he can. He approached me to see what was needed to get this shonky donkey to fire where he has allegedly aiming, so I lent him a 4x20 scope I had. But I went away thinking that the BSA was dangerous. had a conversation with the wife and we decided we could not let him keep that BSA, so we went out and repaid the debt. What else could we repay it with? A new Hatsan 60S, with a Hawke 4x32 scope on it. We had mounts and got a cracking deal on the gun, so now our friend has a decent rifle, decent scope and we gave him a gun bag too... Some photos of the Mercury (those of a nervous disposition look away now)... It looks better from further away, it would look better in Essex in my opinion.... Trigger guard used for defending against rabid kittens... High quality welding, as last seen on a Yugo Zastava,,, Front and rear Invisiglotm sights... Stanley's revenge... Miami vice? At least the rear half is a Mercury, lord only knows what the barrel came off... Stock as used for testing steel cricket balls. Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Yeah but I have a feeling he forked out a fair wedge of his hard earned to get it, the bloke has just taken early retirement to get out of forced redundancy, for someone to take advantage like that, not good! I have a funny feeling he paid round about the £70 mark for it... Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
It looks like someone with an anger management problem has been target shooting with it Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Gota watch them rabid kittens you'know... nasty little Fcukers they are lol Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
You are a kind pair Mike and Mary. £70 quid for this....no, that is just bloody immoral. The welding alone would make any attempt at restoration futile. Makes you wonder why it was welded this way in the first place. Barrel mis-aligned due to releasing it back under spring tension? Whatever, your gift will put this unfortunate episode to an end. Regards and best wishes to you both. Simon Quote Link to post
Tron 173
A kind gesture, Mr & Mrs Mole.It will be repaid many times over with other kind acts to you both. Edited August 2, 2012 by Tron Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
euwww a standard issue shed gun, get left at the alottment over winter etc, looks like theyve viced it at some point, so posably some big arsed springs in there, as theyre a by hand to change the spring..hmmm, 20 yard good maggie blatters though lol. you did good...the weld looks good on the barrel, still holding like...but yeh well, yu know lol..shudders! secretagentmole 1,701
That gun was making 7.9 fpe, so now big butted springs in it, I would say a standard spring and no seals, but by the time you have spent the money on the spring, seal kit, sights, repairing the stock, stripping and rebluing the action and barrel you are talking Pro Sport money, new Pro Sport money. He has not got that sort of cash, so we took appropriate steps. have to get him down the rifle range to get it set up.... Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Just been round to see my neighbour, since getting the Hatsan he has been enjoying shooting it at targets and at the pigeons that were plundering his veggie patch. So he often has a couple of pigeons a week now, says he has never eaten so well! 1 Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
Really???? Good grief I do think you really got done then! Just remember if you ever want a springer then you really ought to consider a 60S, available from £90.... Quote Link to post
PLEDGEY 496
The only way you're gonig to kill a pigeon with that Mercury, is if you hit it over the head with it. Quote Link to post
