A .243 is NOT a toy. A spud gun is a toy for a Boy :nono:

Being an ex gamekeeper i am fully aware of the fact that these are not toys the word was used merely as a term of phrase, casting aside do you or have you used either of the rifles in question the patman

If you state what you want them / it for it makes things a lot easier for answers, as a .22 hornet is a great tool for vermin and fox at shortish ranges, you would look a bit of a dick, pointing it at a boar, if that makes any sense to you. Its a bit like trying to put a 10mm spanner on the wheel nut of a truck.

OK now we have established a gun is not a toy  . AS Scuba said there is a few things we need to know.

* have you got a FAC

* will you be shooting on the hill or lowland country

* Woodland or open country

* how much permission have you got

What Quarry

*Deer which Species

*fox

*rabbits squirials

*corviods

We need to know!!

I have a Sako 75 synthetic stainless with a 8x56 S&B scope and reflex sound mod, for Roe and Charlie.

And a Anshults .17hmr with a Ziess 3-12x56 scope and a SAK sound mod for rabbits squirials and corviods.

And i think they are both the DOGS B-----KS at there respective jobs. :ok:

I have a Ruger rifle in 300 Win Mag. It is a fine shooting piece of equipment. The Ruger

will function well for you in whatever conditions you are able to hunt. The .243 is a great

cartridge but don't plan on putting those hares in the pot afterwards. I had a .22 Hornet

some years ago and found it to be fine for squirrels and hares. Would work well on fox at

shorter distances but the .17 HMR would work as well and the ammunition would be less

expensive to shoot.
