training tips?

just got myself my first lurcher since its my first just wanting to know what you old times do to train them good tips on recall retrieving sitting and staying and jumping

Retreating and jumping pretty high up stock breaking recall also very important after that whatever suites you there's a DVD out that will help you out it's called perdeys progress if you pm mr pit he will sort you a copy hope this helps atb donk

I stated recall,retrieving from 6 weeks old nothing hard just one or two retrieves good way to bond he's now 15 week and retrieving everytime lol loves it just take it slow and don't sicken a pup don't over do it , then at 8weeks I focused on sit just take training slow and bond with the pup

yeaah that did help thanks and J.Dog thing is bought it at 4 1/2 months old recall is there but with retieving first couple mouths it then drops it then other times runs to it sniffs it

Hi have you ever owned a lurcher before and what the breeding like as it can affect your approach to training and even at this early stage whats the dogs charcharter like bold or quiet etc.

This is what worked for me

 

Make yourself a sock dummy a sock filled with lots of socks lol get him excited pulling it around on the floor , getting him to try get it , then let him play tug with it play tug and let go of the sock and move back about 2ft the pup will come to you then play tug again , then throw it about 5 ft away when he grabs it encourage him and walk backward if he brings it back play tug again then repeat process , and slowly fade the tug out and the pup will get the idea

No problem mate

 

Just keep tugging and throwing for a few days then slowly fade out tugging over a period of time by doing less tugging when retrieved, take it slow and the pup will learn

Trying lamping without letting her run and break the mindset of lamp night time equals running,bet the dog does not pull in normal lead daytime walking .

Cookie ur right mate she doesn't pull normaly and is trained well recall,retrieving ,jumpin etc but just gets very exited il try ur advice thanks and shes even worse when she has wach another dog run

I wouldn't be playing 'tug' with it. You'll end up getting a real hard mouthed dog and you wont be able to get game of it...............
