hyperion 122
My Mrs had a pure pedigree pharaoh hound and apart from being a hard headed obstinate cow bag she is a cracking dog, prey drive by the bucket load but there is no way she can be trusted off lead, let her off and she is gone! She will come back but only when she wants to and then normally to where you started the walk, at the car or the house and it can be hours later Quote Link to post

hyperion 122
Some pics that going a trigger them nightmares again Haha ha ha ha ha ha She is a cracking dog, just an evil ginger little cow bag most of the time, you can see the cogs wiring away in her head when she stares at you She is a lot like a pure saluki only she is not sensative in any way at all what so ever Quote Link to post
hyperion 122
ive herd they have a habit of opening up while hunting , if so not the ideal trait for a lurcher Bark at anything she will, grumble, rumble the lot but never heard her open up while running, to be honest I doubt they would make much of a cross for a lurcher, they are just too independant and hard headed Edited August 1, 2012 by hyperion Quote Link to post
AshR1 214
thanks for the comments, i was just curious because i saw one on the internet the other day and wondered what they do and if anybody has ever had them Quote Link to post
hyperion 122
Their Malteese name mean hound of the rabbit, they are designed to hunt rabbits in the rough rocky terrain of Malta or for working with ferrets! Wouldn't want to let Ella any where near a ferret mind! Quote Link to post
GypsyJoe 36
I think they are good looking dogs, but pretty difficult to handle, terrible recall etc. They are basically bred to flush out rabbits in places like the open, rocky scubby brushlands in Malta, they are designed to work in large packs and they 'open up' thet is they make a lot of noise in the process, which is great if you want to drive out bunnies in Malta, not so great if you want a stealthy approach to your quarry uk terrain. This is the main reason they are not much used I believe, aside from I don't see they have anything special (except massive ears) to add to the gene pool, they possess nothing that we don't already have in our existing lurchers and sighthounds I.M.O Edited August 2, 2012 by GypsyJoe Quote Link to post

I cant see as you would want to breed a lurcher out of her though. Quote Link to post
