johnny boy68 11,726
I've done a bit of it but more on stillwater for stockies, the problem on my local river where all the trout are is it runs very shallow. The best results I've had is in a spot where fast water flows into a nice deepish pool and the float just makes slow circles as it enters the pool, it seems to induce the bites. My favourite method is a bubble with a blob of power bait on the brownies love it on my river. Quote Link to post

tegater 789
Bubble and worm works well trotted downstream, and bubble and small spinner works well at keeping the spinner at a certain depth on the retrieve in small streams rivers. I used this with my youngest lad when he was just starting out and it prevented him getting caught up on the bottem if he slowed down the retreive to much. Quote Link to post

tegater 789
I dont know what your streams are like reddawn, but there might be the odd spot he could use a bit of wind to his advantage and try a little dapping. I have used this method in scotland off bridges, where you can just keep the dry fly skipping across the surface to good effect, and if there is a really good breeze the fly keeps taking off and landing, caus ing really hard takes. You can do this with any old rod as well, but obviously the longer the rod the better. 1 Quote Link to post
