Kennel problem

Recommended Posts

Hi, i recently bought a new pup and i'm having trouble with my older dog letting the pup into the kennel with him, and by the kennel i mean the actual dog house. The day i got him the older dog was fine with him, and they both went into the kennel together, but then later on the older dog snapped at the pup because the pup was messing around with him. Unfortunately, he was bitten inside the kennel and he won't go in there at all now. I got a small box for him and put a water proof roof on it for him, and he has no trouble going into it but it won't be permanent because it will be too small for him in a couple of weeks( it was originally made for a yorkshire terrier). Does anyone have any solutions to this problem, or is just easier to get another dog kennel?

By the way, both are ess, and the older dog is 3yo and is quiet, gentle dog. the pup is 10 weeks.

agree with above but I know this is not always possible as the pup gets older I would try again if the pup will not go in take the older one out and feed the younger one in there for a few days then allow the older one back in but stop the food in the kennel I had this with a jack and lab jack thought he was in charge so lab would go no where near the kennel what I said above worked with the aggregation of the jack until someone broke into them but that for another time.

Not many adult dogs will tolerate a pup bounding all over them as Lab says then when he is older you should be able to mix them back

Same here had to put a box in the run as the spaniel wasn't letting the lab into the bed box ,then the spaniel claimed the box out in the run .Sometimes they share the box but if you hear a bark out the kennel shes not wanting to share . Pain in the arse but your better safe than sorry mate

I agree completly. Also,if it were me. I would make it clear to the older dog, That messing with the pup is a big mistake. Leave no doubt in his mind.

Good luck with your pup!
