gnasher16 30,146
Well gnash these blue collar events don't really interest me, I was thinking of taking it a bit more seriously... As I said at 24 it feels like my chances of going pro aren't as good as someone who's been boxing since they were a schoolboy, then again maybe I'm just being a fanny and need to get a grip If you dont feel its something you could or even need to make money from.....why not just go down your local amateur club.....plenty of mid 20,s amateurs about.....and in my opinion its a sport you cant not take seriously at any level....just enjoy it for what it is Edited July 31, 2012 by gnasher16

I went through a year or so of training hard and loved it, being in the army I was as fit as a fiddle but I soon learned that ring fitness is completely different I know it's been done before but do you think my age is a bit too old to start again and make a good go of a pro career if I have the talent? If someone thinks your good enough mate it wont matter what age you are....................the beauty with boxing is its honest,if a manager or promoter thinks he,s going to get coin on the back of you he will offer you a pro contract.....if he dont he wont.......its a harsh game but its honest.

PlasticJock 539
Personally i cant stand the unlicensed scene it was ok back in the Mclean/Shaw era but it gained a " gangster type " image and has never really lost that image........a bunch of nasty loudmouthed women screaming their heads off and pissed up blokes acting tough while cheering their mates on.....thats not my idea of fun but each to their own. If theres a chance you could turn pro then why would anyone even contemplate fighting unlicensed !....Unlicensed is normally for people who cant get a pro licence be it for talent, criminal or medical reasons..............after all said and done if a mans handy in a straightener theres a whole bunch of others out there in the same position who are earning dough from it and they dont have a bunch of daft women and pissed up blokes screaming at them Well gnash these blue collar events don't really interest me, I was thinking of taking it a bit more seriously... As I said at 24 it feels like my chances of going pro aren't as good as someone who's been boxing since they were a schoolboy, then again maybe I'm just being a fanny and need to get a grip 24 NO age imo if you are Seriously Dedicated and have the Talent. What weight would you fight at when A1 Fit ? 81kg so at the top end of light heavy... But not sure whether to jump to cruiserweight simply because I have fast hands and arms like an orang utan Gnash I just got back from the gym My shoulders loved it though

Then it's all the p.r to deal with. A phrase common heard to be the best you gotta fight the best. Very true indeed do you think they give these fights out to anyone not a chance you got work right from the ground up like most have from the age of 10 or under. Maybe mixed martial arts mate seems to be no age restrictions on who gets signed just sign with a reputable gym and if your any good there put you in for the right events
Guest born to run1083
Unlicensed boxing the money is not the best its the money you put down in bets that makes the big wedge. Abit like the coursers betting on there dogs you bet on yourself to win the match

Maybe mixed martial arts mate seems to be no age restrictions on who gets signed just sign with a reputable gym and if your any good there put you in for the right events Thanks for your input mate, let's be honest though half these pro fighters are either s**thouses or they're being held back in a big way by managers/promoters and the governing bodies. I'd rather fight people when I'm ready instead of wait to be told its ok. Like this fury/price bollocks.... Just get it on ffs I'm sure plenty would watch and seats would be filled. (PS. To all those who says "he doesn't need to", well if I was in the pro ranks and I kept hearing people saying I was scared to face someone I'd offer him out). My mate did a bit of mma but it's not my thing at all, for various reasons, so I think I'll sit on the fence for a few weeks/months while I decide what to do and just keep training
