Recommended Posts

its been over 20 years since i have done any ferreting and i am looking to get goin again. just puttin the finishing touches on my new hutch so hopefully by wkend il be gettin 2.

my question are:

which are better hunters male r female?

is it ok if two siblings live in same hutch?

wat age can u start them hunting?

how do i train them to become gud hunters?

when picking ferrets what do i look out for?

when buildin a hutch whats main criteria.my hutch has 2 levels. top is livin quarters and bottom bit of a rum, few flexi tubes etc. is drr anything else i should consider?

thanks in advance.

I like to work Jill's myself but everyone to there own, I start working them at 6 month but I use a experienced ferret with them to help them along, and as the season gets on I start putting them in bigger burrows, then by the end if the season they can work an average burrow by themselfs, then the next season they be ok to work all, it's best to keep ferrets in groups as they are very sociable little things, put stuff in there hutch for them to play on, mine like to climb alot, build a run off ya hutch but make sure it's got a good floor too( ie concrete floor)

My personal oppinion is to start with a pair of jills, so they can be from the same litter, try finding a pair from working stock, but again its hit and miss, there are that many ferrets breeding now that have been pets for years and years will probably have hardly any intrest in working!, best bet is to try get some kits of here!.

Some say wait over a year to work them, i put mine in around 6 - 8 months and let them follow normaly their mother or an older ferret down.
