birddog 1,354
storm, you say 'plenty of decent lads on here' and 'i know a lot of people' but how many responded to my question earlier about finding homes for perhaps 10 pups? like 'chalky' and others have said it's not rocket science to breed them but if honest, genuine dogmen want to maintain the moral high ground over 'puppy farmers' surely we have to make sure pups get a good home. 1 Quote Link to post

graham4877 1,181
well their is some nice photos of your dogs lads.can't knock you for them,, but thats down to you boys.not mr hancock... For me i can't see one reason why you'd need to go to him.. could anyone tell me why you did? when i was looking when i lost my bitch last sep, there was a few littler about of this cross. and i've seen 3 this year so far. so hardly any about.. Like i have alway been told/lived by.. a dog will be with you for alot of years if your lucky so don't rush in. I even know what i'm going for when my 2 die of old age or kill themselves.. so i'm sure you'd of know a long, long time before you even looked for a pup, and why is it people always ask what hancocks are like? when a hancock. its only a collx so what is it you get from a hancock that you don't get from a normal collx? when you think about it all he dose is stick a grey over a collie,, so why not just ask what coll x's are like.. sure it would make alot better thread ? 1 Quote Link to post

You say there were a few litters around of what? Collie/grey? Were the litters genuine collie/greys and were the sellers to be trusted? Quote Link to post

birddog 1,354
some of the nicest most genuine guys i have met are dogmen i'm certainly not tarring everyone with the same brush, i'm only asking the question. also youv'e kinda hit on the problem i was talking about earlier...if i wanted a pup for myself and bred 'jazz' with say 'birds' 'bryn' or 'keeps' 'indie' or my pal rakes cracking young half cross all genuine honest working sound collie x's could i find maybe 10 guy's with the patience, temperament and inkling for a collie x cur at that particular time ? i doubt it and i'd have a litter of pups that i'd be responsible for Quote Link to post
graham4877 1,181
Yea lads i can sort of see the point to be trusting breeder.. but is it something you have had a first hand account of,, some one saying its this cross and its turned out to not be right? now i'l admit i've seen this happen once,, and it was with a lad on here,he had got 2 pups breeder saying it was whippetxbullgrey and something else, and it turned out it was a jackrussle it was crossed with, but i find people tend to.. make up what the dogs doing more than adding breeds in... No i've never phoned any of said adds up, simple because its not the cross for me, even tho i've seen some make good fox dogs over the water and here. I've spoke to him once a few years back and he seams a nice fella and he will know his stock inside out ! you's know how i feel about it. now i could except someone breeding a litter or 2/3 a year from working stock but it just gets me how lads are run down on here for having a litter but hancock is ok by the same people, not anyone on this thread. would some of yous not get together and say right we want this cross so say all chip in get a bitch in and breed what you want and cull hard? would save supporting him . or would you's not just start a line from what you have, say a second cross? birddog 1,354
jeez bud if your offering me the choice between killing 'jazzs' pups or funding hancocks new car ????? Quote Link to post
graham4877 1,181
jeez bud if your offering me the choice between killing 'jazzs' pups or funding hancocks new car ????? he better not be getting a new car out of breeding,, or i'm starting up  I'm sure if you'd put it up on here that you are planning it, you'd have people snapping your hand off mate. even people who don't work them would have them, few round here just keep them as pets, but they do flyball with them..Like i'm wanting a beddyxgrey well my 8yo son wants one and i've been offerd one for free from bear on here when he sticks his mate beddy over his grey bitch,, now if she don't take this year i'l just wait till next year or year after.. i'l wait for it no matter what.. now i'm sure people would rather have a second cross from workers than a first from none workers well i would.. or dose it have to be this % for you's collie lads?? And if you then have a litter and decide to cull, when do you cull? a day old, a week old, 6 weeks old? I was planning a litter off my bitch looked for nearly 2 years to find the right stud and then she never broke down, incidentley I had homes for 5 pups. Quote Link to post
