Trout Fishing on My river (Help)

Hi there i have a stretch of river outside my house with just wild Brownies in and was wondering what way people would try it have have fished with worm and fly and had success but would a spinner do? does anyone have any ideas?

Sinner works great on little brownish, try a mepps, fished downstream through the runs on a slow retrieve.

 

Although not as much fun as a dry fly, if you just want to catch its lethal.

 

About as sporting as a worm though, and I tend to only use it when fishing with the kids.

Have to agree with tegater, dry fly fishing would be enjoyed the most, but i would also try ul lure fishing, little tiny lure's can be good fun.

Ross. I,m away down in London for a few weeks, so can't send a pic, but I use a small mepps, with a small treble, in gold with red spots.

 

Even the very small fingering seem to have no problems taking it, but debarb hooks, as imo it is a bloody waste of the sporting little fish to kill simply because you have damaged it that much removing the hooks.

 

Be prepared for some decent fish as well!

 

I fish on very small streams and rivers, so if you are doing the same, then you will only need a couple of casts max, on each run before moving on.

 

Don't just stick to the pools as some do!

thanks i tried it yesterday had a lot of smaller ones 3-4 inches following and had a few hits of some bigger ones never hooked any so switched over to worm and started catching some smaller ones and the odd bigger one but majority were taking midges off the surface so its back to the river with a dry fly i think

Google New Zealand method, or Klink and Dink - it's a method of fishing a nymph under a Dry Fly. You will have great sport.
