*The*Field*Marshall* 674
Hmmm I've given thought to this potential breeding before, but came to the conclusion that the cross probably wouldn't provide anything more in a dog that hasn't already been proven in an established cross. As for "splattering" day time hares for fun, hmm I wonder under what circumstance. . I think salukis would be out of business if that were true! As for keeping two pups and "culling" the rest...? O KAY. Bottom line for me, get a cross that's already proven and save the puppies! Yours in sport. I said I would cull them because I wouldnt want to be responsible for 8-10 pups being passed from pillar to post if they turned out useless. Is that so bad? You didn't state that pal, but I would agree with you, I'd rather cull than see or hear of something being knocked from piller to post. The lesser of two evils I feel. . ATB Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Definintely. I have heard of lads culling genuinely potential good litters just so that the 2 or 3 remaining pups get more nutrients, not something i would do myself but each to there own and i wouldnt slate someone for doing this. I can see the logic. I would prefer every dog lad did this than sell for profit like alot (or at least like some) do. However in this instance i think its the only option, to breed an unknown cross with unknown potential that could end up producing 10-12 useless mongrels that would get passed around and probably end up in dogs homes or worse, just so that i could 'see what they turn out like' would be outrageous. If someone wanted one and agreed to keep the pup and not pass it around and i thought they were honest decent people then by all means i would let them have one, but other than that i would be culling all except the biggest dog and the second smallest bitch.
