I dont doubt they would be decent if from good stuff. But finding a good Doberman is probably like finding rocking horse shit these days.

My dad has got a German import. She is 7 years old and fantastic. Intelligent, agile, fast. She has natural hunting ability, prey drive and a great nose. She is his pet and family guard dog but I've lamped her a few times for fun and she took to it like a duck to water. Shes had rabbit and retrieved shot fox easily.

If she wasn't spayed then I would put a whip/grey over her and keep a couple of bitches for myself and cull the rest and see how they turned out.

Gaz.

Just to add. My dad has also got a UK KC bollox dobermann of similar age. They are like chalk and cheese. His body shape is that of a Labrador, big blocky head, dopey as they come. Struggles to jump the back door step let alone a 5 bar gate and is about as interested in working (wether hunting or protection) as I am in gay sex.

So just shows the difference in the breed.

thats correct roumor has it a greyhound bitch was in the very early breeding , and they say thats were in the early ones , the bad temperement came from . and the couloring from a manchester terrier .... they do have a good nose on them /or did many moons ago a dobo held the world record for tracking a man on scent alone over many hundreds of miles in the great karu desert of s/ africa ...

the dobs i'v seen , they are not steady , jumping round like nutters .. I say better of sticking with bull as i don't think they have anymore brain than a bull, and bull drive is lot more that dob.. bulls are bred to tackle 4 legs and dob is a guard dog..

you could end off with a big deep chest from a dob.. but don't get me wrong i'm all for trying new breeds

my first lurcher was a GSD cross and he was unreal,, on deer and fox.. just a shame he was hit by some drunk driver
