Lab 10,979
f**k me i only came on here to ask a simple question, i didnt realise id broken some kind of secret lamping code by saying id let me PET try and catch a few rabbits. Maybe i didnt make this clear enough for everyone. As with my mates whippet and bull/grey, my dog is a PET! hes happy being at home with his family and hes happy hunting animals. I bought him as a pet! not the ultimate rabbit catcher, otherwise i would of bought a pure f****n whippet wouldnt i!!! And obviously nobody can answer why you dont see saluki/bulls or saluki/beds. Considering youre all so f****n strict over what is and what isnt allowed when lamping you dont really know much do you! If id been as into it all for as long asd you lot id know every little thing there was to know about lurchers, including why you dont see certain types. Seriously, are there any people on here that can answer my question without being completely baffled as to why anybody wouldnt want exactly what they want from their dog?? Well, I think you are on a wind-up; but to answer your question, (I think), you need Greyhound in Lurchers as a base breed simply for the speed. If you aint got speed, you won't catch much !! I aint on a wind up. lol. im obviously from a different planet to you lot tho. seriously tho, thanks for trying to answer my question. how much slower than a greyhound is saluki or a whippet then? wouldnt of thought there was too much in it?I know none of you will ever believe it but my dog is very fast! hed obviously be no match for a greyhound in a straight line but believe me when i say hes quick! he loves being chased and over my local park he gets coursed by my mates 2 along with another ladys 3 rescued lurchers. all 5 of them chase him for about 10 minutes until they give up cos they CANNOT catch him! occasionally the whippet/grey/deerhound just catches his back side but very rarely does they ever get close enough to stup him cos he corners, brakes and twists better than anything ive ever seen. admittedly i havent seen many real working dogs in action but i cant imagine there being many dogs more agile than him! Oh the tears................ Is there something wrong with you? Yes theres something wrong with me mate...............dont worry about it... Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Yea I know there's plenty about saluki/greys or bull/greys but I don't understand why there arent any without greyhound in them? What I'm after is saluki x bedlington x bull x whippet, no greyhound. Not fussed about which way round theyre bred. either a bedlington whippet over a saluki bull or a bull whippet over a saluki bedlington? Why are you after such a specific breeding mate? What is it you want from the dog? Any why no greyhound? Gaz Well its not entirely for hunting purposes if im honest as ill only get out lamping twice a month tops once i start and i know there isnt many lurchers that cant catch a rabbit. Im not trying to break any records just want me and my dogs to enjoy ourselves. The main reason is that you dont hear abiout any. Id just love to have a really unique lurcher but i love all 4 of the breeds i want in the dog. Ive got nothing at all against greyhounds infact i love them, want a purebred one day. But where i live the ground is quite hard and flinty and ive heard that salukis have harder feet and are less likely to get injuries from running hard ground? Im completely new to all of this so i know i probably sound almost retarded to all you lamping veterans but its just personal preference really. love my lurchers really short and hairy and definitely want a bit of bull in there You certainly so sound retarded!!! Lol. You wanna lamp a whippet x chihuahua x yorkie and now you want a beddy/bull/saluki/whippet to be unique. Each to there own there fella. To be honest I can't see you finding that mix though. Well once he's taken a few rabbits(which he undoubtedly will) I'll post for you. I know he sounds ridiculous to a hunter but he's my pet, not just a tool to use. And why the sarcasm about the mix i want? why am i retarded for wanting a bull x saluki x bedlington x whippet to be unique? Youre telling me i wont find that mix anywhere so it'll obviously be unique wont it!! Oh it will be unique fella Quote Link to post

Oh and i know hes fragile, he only weighs 10kg lol. im always worried hes gonna find a fox soon and end up in a scrap. thats half the reason im always with my mate whos got the bull/grey and whippet just incase he gets into a spot of bother. still think hed beat a fox tho, just might not be so one sided Quote Link to post
South hams hunter 8,921
They aren't many around and rather than trying to be unique by thinking of 'ultimate' breeds go out and see 2 dogs work then get a pup off them. We have all done it when we started out mate but trust me when I say worker to worker is the best way to go. Quote Link to post
