Gaz_1989 9,539
Thanks for replies. I'm definitely going to go down the brick or block (not decided yet) route and have done a quick plan of what I want... It's basically a 4m x 1.5m kennel block split into 2 of 2m x 1.5m with a UPVC door for access into each and a large raised wooden kennel in each one with anti chew strips all round. Then a run of 2.5m x 2m off each kennel constructed from the Galv panels with bars 5cm apart. The roof will be apex over the whole lot. Cheers Gaz Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
They do look good the bought kennels.. I built mine fella off side of a shed, got blocks and cement at cost paid going rate for timber, mesh and box profile sheets.. Never cost much me friend and family done all work... planning to move next year and will build new runs.. 3 Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
Mate although bars look nicer, and the mesh panels are a bit dearer your better with mesh, dogs legs etc can't be hurt with mesh and get the 3/4 solid panels to split the runs. 1 Quote Link to post

I've heard mixed opinions on this. The bars are a lot more solid for sure. I know a few lads with them and they haven't had a dog injure themselves. How do the dogs hurt there legs? I will be going no expense spared on the setup so I will get whichever is best. Cheers Gaz Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Also why do you say use the 3/4 solids to split the runs? Cheers Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
I would just always go mesh as its safer injurys or terrier pups etc I know you don't have a terrier but 1 day you might just my opinion I would always go for mesh it's more practical. I say 3/4 high because the dogs you have just now may get on, but if your splashing out on a permanent set up its to last a year or 2, you could end up with 2 dogs who have the occasional scrap or whatever and seeing each other through a 5cm gap could end up in injury, if a dog gets hold of another's leg through them your up shit creek mate, again just my opinion but I think rather than saying the injury or the fighting etc may never happen and it might never happen, but why leave it to chance just rule the problem out. Then it can't happen. Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
Forgot to say mate if I was building purpose built brick kennels the run separaters would be solid brick anyway. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Ok cheers. I looked at having the brick dividers between the runs but it seems a pointless expense really. It would add about £1000 onto the build cost for no real benefit. I will have brick built kennels with mesh Galv panels on the front i think. Gaz Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Don't make the inside area too large or the dogs will use it as a soiling area.............. 1 Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,164
Correct simo. I'm making mine smaller as my young dog is always pissing in the inside part of the run. Mind you, some of it is in his genes or so I'm told! Quote Link to post
