fox assasin 16
hi lads i have been thinking about this for a while it mite sound a bit stupid but i was wondering why is there only rabbits that live in ditches and none live in ground burrows around my area ? I have been ferreting for only 4 years now and every time i go or find some permission i always look out for some ground burrows but there is only ditches with rabbits ? Is this to do with the type of ground/land that they are on ? Cheers Quote Link to post
weekend.rifle 44
I am by no means an expert but i guess it is simply down the the fact that its easier for them to make their burrows in ditch sides as they only have to dig inwards, not down from the top then level out. The facts that its easier to shift the dirt out behind them, easy to make escape routes out the back of the ditch and that the grass around ditches is usually longer therefor offering more cover must also be a factor. hope this helps, although not sure if i am just chatting b :censored:cks tony 2 Quote Link to post

gnipper 6,466
If its owt like where I am mate its because its too wet in the flat areas and the ditch banks are better drained. 1 Quote Link to post
patterdalejoel 669
there is high places round here where the rabbits live in the reeds/grass full time. guess they dont feel that pressured, and the ground is very rocky. they have the odd burrow here and there for emergencies though Quote Link to post

Mick C. 229
rabbits love the security a ditch supplies They are out of the way below the level of eye sight. They sometimes have a better chance of escape when bolted as they sneak out using the bottom of the ditch as cover Quote Link to post
Tug 168
They also love banks, and will favour the side that is sunniest and best sheltered from the wind/rain. Quote Link to post
