Malt 379
i think this shows why we should go in as separate countries, as adding scottish, welsh and northern irish athletes only lowers the standards of english competitors....... You been watching the men's football..? I'd say the Welsh lads are more than pulling their weight in that team! i knew that was coming mate.... :D ill be gutted if liverpool sell bellamy,,,,, He's a hell of a player, if it wasn't for his gob he could have achieved everything in club football! Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
We as a nation are underachievers unless the THL running dog section membership want to put forward benefit claimants as a olympic sport  Cookie

Irish 78
Personally i have a deep seated mis-trust for people on forums that claim to know a "little bit" about everything and shove it down everyones throat but hey Narcissistic Personality Disorder An all-pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behaviour), need for admiration or adulation and lack of empathy, usually beginning by early adulthood and present in various contexts. Five (or more) of the following criteria must be met: 1) Feels grandiose and self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements); 2) Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal everlasting, all-conquering love or passion; 3) Firmly convinced that he or she is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special or unique, or high-status people (or institutions); 4) Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation - or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious (narcissistic supply); 5) Feels entitled. Expects unreasonable or special and favourable priority treatment. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her expectations; 6) Is "interpersonally exploitative", i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends; 7) Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with or acknowledge the feelings and needs of others; Constantly envious of others or believes that they feel the same about him or her; 10) Arrogant, haughty behaviours or attitudes coupled with rage when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted.

gonetoearth 5,144
i agree .. sailing is not a sport. neither is a horse walking round in circles. Gnasher16 - when you say size , do you mean area or population. ?? if we say population (this is fairer i hope you agree, after all the point you make is that they have more to choose from) We have 62m on 2011 census Spain 40m Argentina 40m Australia 22m Jamaica 2.7m (who will likely produce the gold and silver in the 100&200m) Sorry gnasher .. you just been gnashed !! Either or.................We,re talking about Sport in general not specific sports like Jamaica in the sprints !!! How many world champion boxers have Jamaica produced compared to GB ? How well does the Argentinian Cricket team do on an annual basis compared to England/GB ? How do the Jamaicans fair at Rugby compared to GB ? Who is Jamaicas equivalent to Steve Redgrave in the rowing ? Certain countries will fair better at different sports yes,.......but over the whole of the sporting world....i ask again, name me a better country for WORLD sport than GB of equal size ? The tables wont lie....at the end of the Olympics lets see where GB finish....we were predicted 4th......behind Usa,China,Russia....................now have a look at their size/population compared to ours and thats only within Olympic sport . Gnash don't bite Lol lol
gonetoearth 5,144
Italy and Australia.. My point is that we get close but cannot seem to win much. Its a pattern that we have followed for years.Lewis Hamilton is another, tipped to win it for years to come but ??? . Think he won yesterday. miller 18
I have awoken this morning ready for my weekly Sunday sofa session and have stumbled accross the olympics on the BBC. I am astounded at the sheer lack of talent that this country produces. We are a POOR sporting nation. I for one will not be sucked in by fake , naieve and uneducated euphoria that comes from sporting occasions like this. I was the same at the Euro's .. i was the same at wimbledon. (the tour de france i couldnt care less about) . Why are we so poor at everything ?? This morning i have watched Bulgaria beat us at volleyball. ... Bulgaria !!! Our best player was called okulamfia kowaduku .. i mean . c'mon Andy Murray is supposed to be world number #4 ... he is out of he doubles already .. !! Mark Cavendish was a surefire gold .... he was outside the top 30 .. Who is our nearest challenge to Usain Bolt ???? FACE FACTS we are are poor sporting nation in every respect. I hear our cricket team are world number 1 , ... Strauss ( born s.africa) Pieterson (born s.africa) Trott (yep you guessed it , born s.africa Paneser (wears a turban to bowl) Golf .. World number 1 Luke Donald .. has lived in chicago since age 6 Boxing - Lennox lewis , Amir Khan , Prince naseem .. Ricky Hatton is the best real English boxer of recent times.. seated on his arse twice by Mayweather and pacquio and showed a complete lack of class. Hang on ... we just won a heat of the archery ... Get behind Team GB .. !! bollocks .. when did we become team GB ?? it sounds american for a kick off. I'll be glad when its over .. in the meantime i will support USA .. they always seem to do OK. x Well said I agree with all you said, we are shit.
stabba 10,745
The Government spent billions on these games..perhaps a little of that could have gone towards funding the athletes training and better facilities on top of the meagre funding that they were originally alloted in the first place. Instead this is more of a games about oneupmanship on past hosts imo. We,d do well taking a leaf out of other nations books as far as funding goes towards nurturing our professional and amatuer athletes . Heres hoping we do well but all the preparation in the world wont substitute for what tantamounts to piss poor mismanagement of funding by an egotistical government..atb stabba

scothunter 12,609
What's the prob? She said she done her best. And even apologised which I would never have done. Least she is honest, and admits that was her best. She could have bitched and moaned or made up excuses. But she didn't.,well done to get.
