Birr Fair set to be best ever yet

Recommended Posts

Irish Game & Country Fair has a superb line up of trade stands booked in ALL with at least one MAJOR BARGAIN

With still nearly a month to go we have hit our target stand figure for the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr planned for the 25th & 26th August of just over 200 stands. The majority of these stands are country sports orientated and in fact this event will have one of the best focus on country sports of any Irish Game Fair ever. The major organisations such as the NARGC, Countryside Alliance Ireland and FISSTA have all increased their presences at what is undoubtedly Ireland's national game and country fair. The new Angling Pavilion promoting our 2012 theme of 'the Year of the Salmon & Trout' will be a major highlight of the fair.

The All Ireland Game Fair Championships in shooting, flycasting and gundog handling are all being staged at Birr and all have superb prizes funds - terriers, lurchers & whippets also have superb competitions with the Five Nations Lurcher Championships and The Mourne Digging Championships sure to make the Sunday a day of real interest. Saturday's racing has the new Novice Race plus the first opportunity to qualify for the 2013 Master Mc Grath Challenge.

With our target for stands met we are now only taking stands that are particularly of interest to country sports people and/or are supplying gear difficult to acquire in Ireland. One such stand is : The Global Rifle Stand - I asked them to introduce themselves :

“Global Rifle are the manufacturers of the well know Snipersystems brand.

At Birr Castle we will be selling our bipods and shooting torches and other lamping equipment at special Show Prices..

Snipersystems bipods are a modern, UK made, variation on the 20 year old Harris design, and incorporate a “Podlock”.

This is a nice touch and allows the tilting facility of the Snipersystems bipod to be locked off. The ratchet lock on the tilt mechanism works very well and allows you to move the lever to the side out of the way after tightening. The notched adjustment for leg height is positive, quiet in use and is easy to adjust even in the prone position. Spring tension on the legs is well judged, holding the legs firmly in the deployed or folded position without requiring excessive force to adjust. End result is a solid dependable shooting rest that betters even the Harris bipod! Available in a choice of three lengths.

Snipersystems Gun Light kit has been designed to shine in a tight beam to pick up eyes at up to 600 metres, and enable positive identification at up to 400 metres. It has a powerful 600 lumen led with re-chargeable lithium-ion battery and comes complete with battery charger, three coloured filters and the easily fitted Snipersystems gun mount. It will fit a variety of scope sizes and can even be fitted onto a shotgun barrel up to a .410 Hushpower size. We also sell a cheaper gunlight, the Globalrifle, which is 500 lumens and shines up to 500 metres.

We will be selling a range of other torches and lamps for “dogging” , lamping and general use.”

Now you will note they mentioned special prices and that is another theme we will will promoting this year - that Birr is the place to come for the widest selection of countrysports products at good prices. We have asked all our traders to have at least ONE major BARGAIN. This means if there is something you really want to purchase you will almost certainly save MUCH MORE THAN YOUR ADMISSION PRICE TO THE SHOW.

Looking back to last year this is a picture of just one of the four aisles - these people obviously recognised a 'good value for money day out'.

Full details of the event will be posted on the event web site next week.

Just back from a trip round most of the South, South West and Midlands with fellow directors Philip Lawton and David Wilkinson putting final touches to the fair and organising even more attractions for the Birr fair. Met up with our clay pigeon and terrier & lurcher teams and delighted to announce that both have plans well developed to make their areas the best seen at any Irish Game Fair. The prize fund for the clay shooting surpasses anything seen at any event this year and a new five man team competition for NARGC Clubs is sure to attract some serious game shooting competition when the prizes are announced early next week.

We are 'keeping our powder dry' regarding our range of attractions until after the event this weekend as we want do not want to cause confusion as to what is on where!

We will be at the Lough's Agency Angling Fair in Fintona, Co Tyrone on Saturday and Sunday - this event has some good attractions and admission is FREE - plus you might get a sneak preview of what is planned for the Birr Fair.

Regarding what is shaping up to be the best ever event at Birr :

All we will say at this stage is : 1. The Best shooting, gundog , fishing and terrier and lurcher competitions in the south of Ireland this year will be staged at the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr Castle on the 25th & 26th August 10.00 - 6.00. 2. The largest number of gun dealers will be exhibiting at the Birr Fair with some fantastic new highlights and attractions. 3. The best angling stands will be exhibiting at Birr as part of 'The Year of the Salmon & Trout' theme. This will include major stands by the Federation of Irish Salmon and Seatrout Anglers ( FISSTA) and APGAI Ireland plus taxidermy, game & fish cookery and sporting art. 4. There will be a huge range of sporting accessories and clothing including - all will stands will have at least one major bargain this alone justifying the admission price. 5. The major organisations including FISSTA, NARGC, CAI and IFA Countryside are all mounting major exhibits and we are delighted to welcome the Irish Working Terrier Federation and other organisations 6. We will stage one of the most important events in Irish country sports history on Sunday 26th August. This will be a very special opportunity for ALL Country sports enthusiasts to take part in an event to demonstrate your support for country sports and the rural way of life.

Don't miss the Irish Game & Country Fair at Birr - the country sports enthusiasts fair!

PLEASE NOTE : FROM THE PEN OF MARGARET Mc STAY
      DATE : 10.3.25
AFTER HAVING A VERY ABUSIVE AND DISTRESSING PHONE CALL THIS MORNING AT 8.25am FROM SOMEONE WHO SENT ME AND ASKED ME TO PUT A WINNING PHOTOGRAPH UP ON MY SITE OF A VERY WORTHY WINNING PERSON AT CRUFTS, UNFORTUNATELY THERE WERE SOME VERY UNSAVOURY COMMENTS MADE UNDER MY POST. THAT POST HAS NOW BEEN TAKEN DOWN.
AS I SAID BEFORE AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, I LOVE COUNTRY SPORTS AND HAVE DEDICATED A BIG PART OF MY  LIFE FOR OVER 30 YEARS  DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO BETTER THE SPORT. WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS, AND THANKFULLY IT DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN, IT PULLS ME DOWN TO THE DEPTHS. I TAKE MY OWN PHOTOGRAPHS  AT OUR SHOWS AND DO MY WRITEUPS IN A PROPER MANNER AND WOULD NEVER CRITICIZE OR BRUTALISE THE HARD WORK THAT ALL OUR SHOW ORGANISERS PUT INTO GETTING THEIR SHOWS ON THE ROAD.
HAVIING SAID ALL OF THIS, I  MUST NOW  STRESS, ANY DEROGATORY OR HURTFUL REMARKS THAT IS MADE BY ANY INDIVIDUAL UNDER ANY OF MY POSTS WILL BE TAKEN DOWN IMMEDIATELY.  IF UNSAVOURY POSTS NEED TO BE MADE, PLEASE MAKE THEM ON YOUR OWN SITES AND NOT IN MY NAME, AS THE VERBAL ABUSE I HAVE TO TAKE IS NOT NICE, AND ESPECIALLY TO SOMEONE WHO ONLY  DOES GOOD FOR THE SPORT.
AS WE KNOW COUNTRY SPORTS IS BEING PULLED THROUGH THE MUCK AT THE MOMENT,  WE AS PEOPLE HAVE THE  POWER, SO FOR THE GOOD OF COUNTRY  SPORTS  TRY AND PULL TOGETHER  AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT, AND WE WILL WIN IN THE  END. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTINUE TO POST YOUR COMMENTS ON MY SITE AS LONG AS THEY ARE STRAIGHT AND CLEAN AND FOR THE GOOD OF THE SPORT.
      Yours in Country Sports

A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE JIMMY SCOTT, A TOP DOGGIE MAN IN OUR COUNTRY SPORTS FRATERNITY, WHO LEFT THIS WORLD ON Christmas Day.   I Am Free Do not grieve for me now my friends and family, I am free. I am following the path God Laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all.   I could not stay another day to show, to live , to hunt, to fish or play. I found my peace at close of day. Be not burdened with this time of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief. Do not lengthen it now with undue grief.   Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me. God wanted me now, He set me free.   From all in Country Sports Margaret Mc Stay
