1888andybhoy 7
Hi, I'm going to be putting up an electric fence around my new pheasant pen tomorrow. As my poults come a week on Monday i want it up and running for a week before the birds come just incase. I've got a 12v car battery, a spool of electric rope, screw in insulators, and an energizer. how do i set up the fence for foxes ? The energizer has a black and a red crocodile clip for positive and a black one for negative that clip onto the 12v battery. Theres a red crocodile clip and a green crocodile clip coming from the unit. What do i do with these, What height do i set the wire/wires and how far from the pen wire. what do i do with the ends of the wire ? do I fold it over at the last insulator and tape it with electricians tape. any advice welcome or pictures. Many thanks. Andrew.. Quote Link to post

1888andybhoy 7
Thanks mate, its not really telling me how to attach the cables to the wires and how to finish the ends of the wires. do i attach a wire from my energiser onto my wires around the pen and at the last insulator do i just fold the wire back and tape it. many thanks. mally 832
The electric fence needs to be in a complete circuit mate, I use the plastic sheep poles and have 2 wires one 7" high and one 13" high every so often i have run a wire from the top line to the bottom. Put the red crocodile clip to the fence wire , and the green to a steel pole pushed in the ground (earth). It's a good idea to buy a fence tester too, i got one off ebay for £12.00. Recharge the battery when it gets down to 4000V Make sure that you have cut all the grass etc from around the electric fence otherwise it with earth the fence and the battery won't last long at all. burnie69 376
Electric fences do not have to be a circuit to work you can have a straight line if you want to. Around all my pens ( 8 of ) where the gate is i use a plastic hook what clips on the fence post at the start and end of the fence so its not mking a circuit and it works completely fine as mally said though if you have 2 strands you will have to run a piece of fence wire to connect both strands together. 1 Quote Link to post

burnie69 376
You dont have to have a complete circuit to get a fence to work meaning both ends dont have to be connected. As long its not earthing out on the floor or touching anything it'll work try it lab where you gate is double back you fence wire on its self thats it you undo it to go in your pen and turn your fencer on.What i'm getting at all my pens i have to dissconnect the wire to open the gate to get the buggy to feed. Even quicker to dig your electric wire in by dropping it into a plastic pipe underground and then putting a concrete block under your gate so nothing can dig in..... Quote Link to post
