Born Hunter 17,775
We are experimenting with a small number of released grey partridge this year. What age do people consider is right to start shooting them? I've heard varying opinions from 12 weeks to 18 weeks so far. I guess they're ready when they are ready but a rough idea would be nice. Gkeeper111 22
Mine are 10 weeks at the moment and are not fully coloured up yet and are no way near fully grown so I'd leave them untill they are a lot older than 12 weeks. Won't be shooting mine untill first week of October so they know the land well etc. cheers Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,775
Mine are 10 weeks at the moment and are not fully coloured up yet and are no way near fully grown so I'd leave them untill they are a lot older than 12 weeks. I think too many worry about opening their partridge pens and never seeing the birds again So react to that by shooting the birds as soon as they can fly to ensure some sort of return. It's a bit bitter watching a bird that hasn't a clue get whacked just for the sake of it. Edited July 27, 2012 by Born Hunter Quote Link to post

burnie69 376
18 weeks minimum just so they have a sporting chance. We don't put are french partridges out untill 12 weeks there that this coming monday and dont start shooting untill late sept so they'll be 20 weeks plus and to be honest some of em wouldn't be the fittest on the 1st couple of days. We rear a 2-300 english thats all not to be shot they get released just to be put back in the wild there 8 weeks now and wont be released untill october time. Must admit they are my favourite bird and if french took after em a little more they might have more of a chance of breeding in the wild. Quote Link to post
hotshot2me 31
we do crop protection on thousands of acre and there are numerous coveys of Partridges about not pen reared, all the young one's we've seen are very immature yet and will need at least 7-8 weeks yet to see them at there best. I'm sure everyone would like to take a sporting shot. than a bird that hasn't got its pilot license, Ive seen far too many birds being shot over the years that don't represent a shot at all but still are shot just to make the bag up: Dave Quote Link to post
