Sal/grey/collie breeding

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the further replies.

I assume the guy who said they wouldnt make any money was being sarcastic?

If not then neither of us are out to make money. In fact when I have a litter of my own I will probably keep 2 bitches back for myself (to pick 1 over the coming months), keep whatever mates want back and cull the remainder.

It's not for everyone but it suits me. I think it's a bit selfish bringing up to 12 pups into the already piss poor lurcher world to be passed around and messed about just because I want a couple out of my dog. Just my take on it.

I saw him last night and he's thinking about putting a coursing bred sal/grey over her now.

So the pups will be saluki greyhound with a dash of collie.

A mate of mine has got a 6 year old bitch mostly saluki/collie/grey with a dash of deerhound way back.

She is 24" tts, very obedient, fast off the mark, ferrets and lamps rabbits, takes daytime hares well. I've seen her work a few times and can't fault her.

He wants a pup out of her and I fancy one of them.

I've got a sal/grey x collie/grey bitch myself and really like them so I've advised he puts a similar bred dog over her.

He's thinking of a strong, quite tall whippet probably 22" or a whippet/grey.

He does a lot of golf courses so is thinking the reduction in size will help here and be even quicker off the mark.

However he doesn't want to lose the intelligence and stamina which is already there in the bitch.

What would you lads put over her?

I know the general rule is "what is she missing" but we can't really find anything, she is spot on for what we do.

I've always liked the idea of a whippet put over a good all round lurcher.

Cheers

you mite think of adding a bit of coat in to them . unless some of the deerhound has come throu just to keep the muscles warm in the winter

He's gonna go down the sal/grey or saluki/whippet/grey line I think.

Keep the size about 24" and keep nice and racey.

Hopefully that bit of collie blood in the dam will add just a touch of extra brain power and make them a tad more biddable.

Cheers
