Pricked eared whippets.

I'm not sure what 'prick ears' means.....

 

My whippet bitch has them 'rose ears' but when she eyes up a rabbit/ lure/ something interests her they go pricked up and pointed. Are you telling me this is a fault?

thats my type a whippet, i dont like saying it on here cos its sure to ruffle a few feathers an get some dummys thrown about, but i cant see why folk would use sho bred whippets when there are dogs like this about

 

 

Everyone has there opinion and i respect that, but how can you call me for using show bred blood when you haven't seen my dogs? At the end of the day I'm more than happy with them and that's all that matters.

answer me this, show whippets have been bred now for god knows how long, for what??? the perfect shape... is that right???

 

so to me, a written description of a dog means nowt, how can that compare to a dog that has been bred off workers?? dogs that are proved to be physicaly sound on the feild, where it matters, not compareing it to a written description,, wtf???

 

my honest opinion is your kennel blind, as are most of the folks who say... I OWN THE BEST WHIPPET/LURCHER iv seen, it may be the best in your eyes, but is it the best in mine, i doubt it...

 

an what is it way the flashy pics??? do ye actually think they are provin yer dogs are the best whippets around?? i got pics of end of days/nights. pups an grown dogs retreiving, but putting them on here proves nowt...

 

as for your pups, have ye ever thought the reason they have turned out decent, is cos its a blend of 2 close lines?? whats ye plans now, to line breed??

There has in the past, been Pedigree Whippets that excelled in all three jobs; showing, coursing and racing. It's still possible to have a pup from either lines and have it do well in the others. I think the Breed Standard IS important, as when, such as in Non- Ped Racing, the standard is ignored, you get tremendously fast dogs, but they are basicaly bred down Greyhounds; and with the BWRA 55 lb limit, sometimes there is no difference and they may as well be called Unregistered Greyhounds !

 

Now, before anyone takes me to task, LOL, I'm a great admirer and supporter of BOTH Types, Ped and Non-Ped, and have owned, worked and raced them. If, in the future, I have another and it did it's job, I wouldn't care what it's ears were like, though obviously I'd prefer a Pedigree to confirm to the breed standard.

I think the issue here is some folk don,t care what the dog looks like as long as it doe,s the job and theres other folk who like to conform to kc standard, conforming to standard as somebody else has mentioned is all about the money money, charging £400 a pup ffs

Just out of curiosity as you seem to of bred a couple of litter's how much do ye sell the pup's for ?

I personaly wouldn't pay £300-£400 for ANY dog.......... BUT, as far as Pedigrees go, Whippets come in at the "lower" end of the price range. How much would you pay for a Deerhound or a Saluki; £600-£1000 ? And what about shite like British Bulldogs ? £!000-£2000 !!

 

It's called the law of supply and demand, If idiots will pay it, people will charge it !!

"Prick" ears IS a fault in SHOW Whippets........ but means absolutely NOTHING in working or racing Whippets.

I consider it a fault in all whippets Chartpolski, just like the shallow chest in racing x working lines. I did alot of research when i was looking for a suitable stud dog for Jess to produce Sagar, and a lot of folk slagged me off for using show blood. The reason i used show blood is i didn't like the look and conformation of alot of the working lines and i wanted to breed as close to the standard as possible. Some people say breed worker to worker but whats the point in that if they both have bad faults. Jess was a good worker but the stud dog i used hadn't caught a rabbit in it's life, however he was the best dog that suited jess, the end result is probably the best lamping/ferreting bitch i've had the pleasure of breeding/owning.

 

It's horses for courses but i prefer a whippet to look like a whippet....

Out of intrest mally do you think KC standards are a good thing to go by. All I've ever known Is kc to feck breeds up not really improve them

A lot of people have this obsession with whippets of late and that is coming across in the prices charged for pups, seen a few good whippets and I do like them though wouldn't own one. Great little dogs if brought on right but to charge some of the prices you see these days is a piss take, when those £400 whips are wiping the floor with the £150 purpose bred lurchers then I'll go down the whippet road. Haven't had to in nigh on 30 years and wouldn't expect to in the future truth be told !
