Whippets, what were they like?

Chartpolski when did you first go out with a lamp??

 

What is the oldest literature kicking about in someones loft or shed regarding lamping??

 

I would have a small whippet for pottering about in the daytime, could be quite fun mabye not get into as much trouble ?? Then again my luck I would get one that was smashing deer for fun :laugh: :laugh:

 

I've a nice dog pup available mate, lovely stamp of a dog. :thumbs:

Can't say for sure, Steve, but it was before I got married, so that would be about '71 or '72. Started lamping with Non-Ped Whippets then went on to Lurchers. I realy prefered daytime then, but soon got the lamping bug ! :thumbs:

I have always admired your dogs and the condition you keep them in... At the moment I could not commit to a young dog but thats a smashing looking pup.

In them days did you have more of a right to roam or could you still get shipped of to OZ :laugh: :laugh:

 

When did they stop that carry on early 1900s?? Be alright if they still sent offenders off there now I would have a wee walk on the darkside :laugh:

LOL !! It was just as hot then, mate !! What we do/did was ALLWAYS ilegal, never mind the ban !!!

 

You ought to get yourself down to Australia, they have great hunting; I've been a few times, and they have some decent Whippets;

I went for Millennium was good crack never done any hunting, well was hunting about for birds :laugh: :laugh:

 

Went canoeing down the Murry River, travled down surf coast (Victoria). Would really like to go again and see abot of hunting but dont think It will happen :laugh: to many commitments these days :victory:

 

They look like big whippets...

 

Got an old DVD with some old English fella ferreting in OZ with the Tunnel cage Trap Things :laugh: :laugh: he was a cracking shot with a 12g too..

 

Recon NZ would be a a good climate to run dogs looks a nice green place pigs goats rabbits hares probly got deer too :toast:

Been to NZ a few times, too. Same again, they love their hunting and fishing. No foxes there though, but any amount of deer and pigs;

Lovely little dogs, had them for many years beofre lamping came in..my dad was a good whippet man, racing them and working them..

when did lamping come in?

 

I was talking more for myself, probably after reading Lurchers and Longdogs when it first came out, others could have started before this..
