Tron 173
Yesterday I went to shoot a few knock down targets so I got myself off to Penkridge ARC which is situated just outside Stafford, The sun was out and I got there taking with me my .177 Stoeger springer. I was dissapointed that there was only one target under 25 yards the rest was across the stream about 35 to 45 yards away all targets meant having to shoot about 25 degrees bellow horizontal. I only had a 4X32 scope on my gun so it wasnt really good enough for such ranges that and the fact that I cant kneel or lye down. the main killer for me was the high cross wind R2L which was also being buffeted by gusts making it impossible for me to keep my rifle steady when aiming. However I was gobsmacked when I saw a shooter who was shooting the top of the range EV2 mk3 AA field target rifle and a scope that he had set at 20x mag. He sat down and set himself to shoot one of the furthest targets about 40 yards away, In truth I thought he would be about as successfull as most of the competitors there. But I was gobsmacked when he knocked down the central kill disc then promptly hit the same size reset disc, and continued to hit 4X4. that was shooting of the highest order. the only success I had was when I was having to aim off about 5 inches off into the wind and that was just to hit the target animal!! I only knocked down one rabbit! deep gloom. mind you I gave up after shooting at only half the targets. But that feller knocking them down was at another much higher level than my puny efforts. it was worth the 40 mile round trip just to see such shooting. Quote Link to post

milegajo 595
A small investment in a variable mag hawke sport hd and some homemade shooting sticks should pay dividends. 1 Quote Link to post

Tron 173
Yes you are shooting good there Bud,I have been thinking about shooting sticks cos following major surgery early this year and awaiting even more, I cant lie down or use a bipod plus I am now a clapped out old berk 73 years old, been there done that when I was pretty good at shooting, shot for my County when younger BUT I cant do it anymore! I smile when I read posters saying they can shoot pellet on pellet at 35 yards ! But they must be shooting off a bipod or a table top rest with a recoiless rifle. Even Vini and Davey dont claim such one pellet results. and what they achieve is mighty impressive. Keep up the good videos guys. Quote Link to post

Hey Tron, I'm with you when you say about the old bit, i think we must be travelling the sick boat in parallel. I like you can not lay or kneel, i use shooting sticks all the time, i have a pair of sticks for every occasion, be it birthday wedding etc lol. Seriously thou i have a set for walking 'n' shooting, i have a pair for when i;m sitting in a chair, i have even got a set of tripple sticks. One thing i have got that i use a lot is a camera tri-pod but the head is a fishing rod support, i also carefully drilled a hole in the underside of my stock (near balance point) and tapped a thread into the hole to take an insert the same thread a a camera tri-pod. That way i can leave the gun at a convienient level for static shooting. Hope some of these will be of use to you. Roger Quote Link to post
Tron 173
Good ideas there Rog,All of what you suggest is valid and obviously work well, I was thinking about using a couple of old alloy walking sticks with a leather cradle to fit the forend and with the adjustable pressing buttons would be able to move the cradle hight up or down to suit different angles to the target. Thanks again, Ron. Edited July 30, 2012 by Tron Quote Link to post
Marksman 934
The trouble is, I KNOW Si can do it, with both a spring rifle and PCP, I've witnessed it and shot alongside him many times and in my eyes has nothing to prove. At least he has the balls to put his claims on live video to bear witness!! Darryl Quote Link to post
Tron 173
I have the greatest of admiration for the shooting skills of Si, Davey, Phantom, Craig, and one or two others on this forum! what I was trying to put across was there have been a few posters on here stating their gun puts "Pellet on pellet at 30 to 35 yards! " They dont say that they achieve such results shooting from a free hand or standing position. With the greatest respect such superb grouping can only be obtained from a rifle with a bipod or from a bench rest. anyone who could shoot 10 one hole groups at 35 yards (Freestanding) would be able to win most Olympic rifle events "Fact" So that is my opinion , if guys on here state they can do it freehand is just their opinion but I would like to witness it thats all. No pellets were harmed while typing this reply.!! Quote Link to post
