Coterminus Photos

Recommended Posts

You do not need 8 photos if you are in the Avon & Somerset area - but just 4.

May be worth checking that Cambridge Police or not the same.

its a country standard mate not variable force to force, 4 with SGC and 4 with FAC application, conterminus means both at the same time

Sorry Paul you are wrong with that statement - Avon and Somerset are just 4 photos for a coterminous application. Yes I know what a coterminous application is - I even know how to spell it

says 4 for each on their website http://www.avonandso...rtificates.aspx

Hm... their web site is hardly ever up dated. This was sent out to firearm/shotgun owners just last month:-

i would ring and check if i was you as that still says 4 for each on each application, the application forms are set at national level not force level so if it had changed for one it would have changed for them all. sportsmans bet its a cockup on that guidence letter

Yes I too assumed they had got it wrong, so I phoned them and they confirmed that the guidance note were correct and was just 4 for a coterminous application - apparantly according to Avon & Som they just photocopy the extra they need. The application went in with 4 photos and both new FAC and SGC are now with me - no problems

very strange they ask for 4 then photocopy the other 4. seems to me someone was covering their mistake by photocopying them for you, normal rule would be for your application to sit on someones desk for a couple of weeks and then send it all back to you saying you had not included enough photo`s :icon_eek:

Paul - I think you are just going to have to accept Avon & Som only need 4 photos.

A friend has also recently had both his certificates back and only sent 4 photos. When you think about - why do the Police actually need 8 photos ?

Hiya, You def need 8 photos, 4 for SGC app, and 4 for FAC app.. :)

This is indeed correct. The number of photo's required is a matter of law and is laid down in the Firearms Act. It would need an act of Parliament to alter the number of photos required.

However, having said that, if a particular police authority wish to ignore the law and ask for only 4 photos then that's their decision.

Dicehorn is correct, Avon & Somerset only require 4. However I recently acted as a reference for a chap's fac. He was renewing his SGC and had his local vicar sign his form and endorse a photo. He then decided to apply for a fac conterminously and asked me and another chap to act as referee.

This of course meant that he needed 3 photos signed by referee's and 2 signed by himself making 5 photos in all.

Makes the 4 photo requirement look a little daft.
