skycat 6,173
If you mean in public.NEVER. .No matter what age. Don't you mean on the road? Mine all go off the lead 'in public', which is to say when there's other people and dogs around: on playing fields, common land etc. How can you teach a recall if the pup is never let off the lead when it is growing up? beast 1,884
i have my pups off the lead from the off, tehy are always looking to you as they are not brave enough to explore and this way the recall is easy. they grow up never really questioning if they have to come when called, its just something that they have always done so its second nature. if your pup is nervy and sits in the bushes, you need to be very gentle and non-threatening anf crouch down and call in a soft voice. when she comes reasure her and be kind, and she will soon realise that YOU can stop the big wide world being quite so scary, and she will look to you for encouragement and guidance. perfect scenario. good luck 1 Quote Link to post
desertbred 5,490
I assume in public never he means in cetain circumstances for example my running dogs dont get let of when little F***y lickers are around because they dont like them also I am vary careful when strange children are around they are great around kids but I just would not take the chance Edited July 21, 2012 by desertbred Quote Link to post

jporter 73
I always have a pup of the lead as soon as in a decent place that's not going to risk the dog being killed or injured Quote Link to post
J.DOG 1,355
I've got the brother pup to slipthebitch I let him off lead in one of my small fields , he doesn't leave my side ,when he's following me I just call his name after walking 10-15 feet and give him a treat so he knows it's a good thing to be off lead i just walk around , play with him making him feel secure , he's fine I want him to have a run around but when he's ready .
