feeding times???

Recommended Posts

hi guys I'm new to ferreting!! we have 2, 9 week old jill kits and i want to feed them the dead male quails we have surplus as we breed quails!! but how long should i leave the quail in with the ferrets?? they seem to go mad for a bit and have a good feast on it but obviously a whole quail is to much for 2 little kits!! so they leave a good far bit!!

trouble is in the hot weather the remains will attract flies and go off quickly , best to chop up and refrigerate the bits . if you imagine the size of the gut on such a small ferret it dosnt take much to fill them up , trial and error is the key . feed on a morning and then try again at lunch then again at tea time you will soon know if they are hungry . you can also use this situation to your advantage by handfeeding the small amounts to get them used to your fingers and being handled . if they are still hungry just up your quantity or feed more often and as they grow they will obviously need extra rations.

Cut the quail in half just now then later when there older put a whole one in as late as you can when its dark and you will find they have time to get a couple of feeds off it and a nap in between then just remove the remains in the morning . you might find they get fed up of quail all the time though
