Richie10 345
I would use a bass rod or a light beach rod with a live bait or a large bait close to the shore at night. Lure fishing is fun but more likely to pick up schoolies. 1 Quote Link to post

bullseye76 16
rapala J11 has worked for me a few times but what works for 1 may not work for anyone else and all depends on the place you fish i find bass spinning is good if the water is fierce crashing waves and all that again horses for courses atb stu Quote Link to post
comanche 3,036
Long ,thin "Toby" shaped silver pirks work well on the South coast anyway .You don't need heavy tackle. The sort of set up that you would consider sporting pike gear but without a wire trace should be fine unless its rocky where you are. Look for givaway signs of shoals of bait fish or gulls hunting within casting distance. If bass are about and in feeding mood they won't be far away and often seem to trap the small fish against the breaking waves so long casting is not always needed .Bass will often knock a lure or bait and turn back for it so keep the lure working right up to the rod tip . A friend who lives on the coast often carries a telescopic rod and a few lures with him when he takes his dogs for their evening walk "just in case" something is moving close -in. But first find your bass ! Edited July 23, 2012 by comanche 1 Quote Link to post
