B.P.R 2,798
One of my bitches had just had her first season at 13 months, noticed the past few days the area around her nipples was slightly swollen. Anyway, she was in the vets today for a booster injection and the vet said she is having a phantom pregnancy, the swollen nipples could be the only symptoms or she could go through a full 'pregnancy and fake labour'. Anybody had any experience with this? The dog is just starting to mature, look good and fit and I'm looking forward to september with her. I'm dreading her putting on loads of weight etc and going through this. I always thought a bitch had to be mated to go through a phantom pregnancy and I'm 100% certain no dog has been near her. Thanks

Thanks she doesn't have to be mated to have a phantom pregnancy, my wee cocker bitch has had a phantom on her last 2 seasons, in my experience she won't put on loads of weight but may put on a bit, i wouldn't worry about it, just let it take it's coarse. what did the vet mean when he said " fake labour".? B.P.R 2,798
Aye it's 'your wee lucy' She's just had her 1st season and it was a heavy one. The area around her nipples are swollen but apart from that, there's nothing. Just thought I'd mention it to the vet whilst I was there. By 'fake labour' he said I shouldnt be surprised if I find her one day panting and lying on the floor. I'm hoping it's nothing, she's just beginning to come into her own, looks and character wise and keen too.
