Terrier eating sheep sh**and rolling in bird sh**

I have a 3month old patterdale terrier and when i take put walking she try's to eat sheep sh** i have stopped her eating it while shes on the lead but when shes off she will pick it up and run off and eat it and runs away when i get close to her, also when she finds bird sh** she will roll in it. Why is she doing these things and any suggestions to how i stop them no so botherd about the bird sh** thing but would like to know why she does it

lol oh well aslong as she dont get sick i supose its okay, she might just have to learn the hard way, as long as shes normal i dont mind aha thanks anyway

Shit is like chocolate to dogs: they really get off on eating disgusting things: to them it tastes delicious, but may also contain minerals lacking in their diet: I noticed that my dogs used to do it a lot more before I started feeding raw meat, bones and veg etc.

 

They roll in smelly stuff because to them its like the best perfume ever: bit like cats rolling in cat nip, but dogs prefer something a little more pungent

Anybody else find bitches are generally more inclined to do it? My nan reckons bitches do it out of the mothering instinct, the same as when they eat the shite of their pups to keep the area clean and keep signs of young away from predators..

dogs ingest substances from smells that give them a charge, strange smells especially prey like smells from sheep rabbits etc can be eaten in the form of shit,

 

on the other hand less prey like smells from foxes , badgers tend to be rolled in, its all a form of making contact indirectly, that's all

 

watch two dogs meeting and greeting , they get charged up by the sight of each other but through smelling and tasting front and back ends they neutralize the charge and go on their way,

 

It's all a form of making contact through smelling and tasting,

 

i would'nt worry bout it bud,
