Hardfeather 56
Some brood hens are priceless, not everyone keeps £5 chickens. Well unless he's got the best Rhodies in the country which I doubt he has (otherwise he wouldn't be asking for info on here) it won't be a priceless brood hen

Moll. 1,770
Don't have to be 'the best' birds for someone to want to help them. Family pet's come in all shapes and sizes
Mez 11
Thats what i was thinking Moll. They have asked for help with a health problem, not a discussion on whether other people would like to keep the breed they have or for the same reason. To be honest if something is treatable i will treat it - after all if i didnt want the animal in the first place i wouldnt bother to keep it...IMO necking a bird is sometimes the lazy option..
Millet 4,497
Too true Mez..if they can be helped they should be helped and imo culling is the last resort..would you get your dog put to sleep at the first sign of trouble..?..i very much doubt it..

Millet 4,497
A pet is a pet..no matter what it is..a pet chook mean's the same to the owner as a pet dog cat horse and whatever else..they are all living thing's and deserve respect and a chance in my eye ball's..don't get me wrong i have culled my fare share of pet's over the year's..not something i would boast about but like i say everything deserve's a chance instead of going for the easier cheaper option of culling.. I've not hunted yet as this is my first year..not that it has fook all to do with this topic.. this is my first year as well................fair enough you want to save a chicken..................but a dog and especially a working dog is no comparison to a chicken, it puts stuff, on your plate, (a little more than an egg), puts its body on the line for you, it shows loyalty and protects you and your surroundings....................
