I agree, good and bad in all, my lamping partner had one in the 90's, never saw it but he told me it was a decent rabbit and hare dog and I don't doubt his word. Its not just commercial breeders, in fact a bigger problem are those who put any old lurcher over another just to make a few quid, which always baffles with as some pedigrees can fetch a grand or more rather than a few hundred for a lurcher pup.............. MOO 730
Ok rake about if you are going to get your kniicker in a twist we will turn this aguement around can any one name a hancock bred dog or bitch that was considered up there with the best of them and for every hancock bred dog from untested parents I will name 3 top dogs bred form decent stuff ....thats the thing when Hancock bred dogs are spoke about ....the phrase they do what I want is used alot and thats fair enough thats what they are your average mooching lurcher and if there owners are happy then thats the main thing but no one should ever make them out to be anything there not...surely there are far better collie crosses out there being bred from worked parents that what Hancock has to offer Edited July 17, 2012 by MOO 3 Quote Link to post

How many lurchers are there in the UK and how many are Hancocks.? I won`t be getting any knickers twisted, but,, You are talking about coursing lines. Bred for coursing, big name dogs that have won competitions, not yer avarage mans dog. It`s always going to be a marmite subject, and if you can name lots more working lurchers that are top line dogs then thats fair do`s. But, people will like Hancocks , for whatever they are. storm323 191
What moo saying is right you can't deny that A guy breeding untested parents totally untested is wrong and I think the would make mooching dogs or part time lampers maybe some have turned out decent but how many have failed ? With breeding a good working collie to a well breed greyhound or a good collie x to another good collie x would be better results? 1 Quote Link to post
hedz31 1,308
Ive had 2 a 3/4 bred merle bitch and a 5/8ths 3/8th's beardie grey dog the bitch was poor and the dog very average Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,802
I've had 2 also. Early 's, First cross beardie/border (Richard Jones) to Jade (grew), Dog. Brilliant on fox but had the turning circle of an aircraft carrier on rabbs, and second one about about 10 years ago, 3/4 bred Stormin' Norman bitch pup. Half decent on all quarry but nothing special in any area. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
MOO 730
Rake about I wasnt just talking about courseing blood there are a few dogs from the past and even alive today that have been or are what I and many others would class as top class working lurchers that most would want to own ...but one thing all these dogs have in common are tested ancestors that were worth breeding from in the first place . RossM 8,119
As with any litter out there, you pay your money (or not) and take your chance, show a dog nothing and what chance has it got, give a dog a chance and it will show you what it can do or can't do. Saw 2 myself one was decent on edible quarry, the other not so good. Quote Link to post
poacher92 32
One of my pals had one a blue mearl 3/8 5/8s wasnt worth a wank would catch and pull stuff down but would let go once caught. Quote Link to post

Sounds like it could have made a reasonable dog in the right hands. Your pal would have been better suited with a dog with natural killing instinct. Maybe a bull cross from a good working strain or indeed anything bred from parents proven in that work. Edited July 18, 2012 by Maximus Ferret Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
The only positive side I can see to going to Hancock is toucan get the exact cross you want and know that's exactly what your getting. I know how hard it is to find a good working dog with even a little collie influence as iv been looking for a stud for a while so this is where Hancock can beat people. My pride kept me from going anywhere near him when iv been looking for a pup as I was brought up that dogs and money don't mix and 1 certainly shouldn't be usde to make the other. You can't deny the mans a peddler thousands of pups? No man on this earth needs thousands of pups unless he's trying to make money like Hancock therefore he's a peddler he spits out pups for money no matter what anybody tells theirself to make theirself feel better that's what he is. pups should only come about if the owner and or his/her friends need and want a dog from the dog/s used money should be the last thing on anybody's mind. Just for the record I'm not knocking anybody's dog I know there has been some great dogs from his kennels but with percentages and owners time it's bound to happen, I just would be disappointed with myself lining the pocket of somebody using dogs for nothing other than pup machine so I won't be going. 2 Quote Link to post
