Bobba_fett 117
One of my labs got into a bit of a scrap last night and got bite on ear. i cleaned up the ear and everything looked fine. then today the other ear has swollen up, it feels like the is flued in it. I dont know if i should burst it and keep it clean or leave it. I'v heard of people bursting swollen ears and the whole ear shriveled up. Has anyone had this before? and what did they do? Cheers, Tom

Bobba_fett 117
i'v looked it up on the net, its a burst vesel in the ear and its fulled up blood. you can do it yourself, but the problem is getting it to stop bleeding.
Carraghs Gem 1,675
I agree with the burst blood vessel ... Vet is best option

Cheers, Tom Just happened to my old bitch a wee while back mate. Dont know how she done it but her ear started to swell up and as you say was filling with blood. Off to the vet and they told me to come back in a week so the blood got a chance to clot in the ear cause if they drained it now it would just fill up straight away. So i went back in a week, they stuck a syringe in and drew out the blood and injected a steriod. I was told it might just fill up again and if it does to leave it a week again and come back. Next day it was filling up again but after 2/3 days she came out the kennel one morning and her ear was all shrivelled up..... Get a needle and syringe and do it yourself if you feel confident....there was nothing too it when i watched the vet....
Bobba_fett 117
took it to the vet they drained it and put the steriod in. then folded the ear over his head and bandaged it down. She said I could do it myself if it happend again to another dog, but if it refilled then to bring it in. Cheers for the advise tho Tom
gnipper 6,548
One of mine had one from a bite and his went down after a few days of being cleaned and some penicillin tabs so perhaps that was an infection rather than a burst vessel? I'd certainly try it again though rather than lancing and shrivelling ears.
