darbo 4,776
my mate had beddy crosses 30 years including some beddy whippets. made good little ferreting dogs also good little hunting up mooching dogs.seen them take feather on occasion. as for yapping they do have a reputation for this. my mate always took his time and tried to give them easy catches. starting them off ferreting holding rabbits in the net and progressed from there. never seen any of his dogs yap. his beddy/whippets were only used daytime .have seen a few with a stubborn streak and some not.a good little rabbiting dog in the right hands. lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I would go for a 3/4 whippet 1/4 bedlington, should hopefully be a bit faster and maybe easier to handle. I have a 1/2 bred which is a good ferreting bitch but could do with a little more speed. Quote Link to post

Magwitch's 3/4whippet 1/4 beddie can be seen in the Sighthounds At Work section, he has a great nose and terrific prey drive. Quote Link to post

bunnys 1,228
I wouldpersonally take a beddy whipp for what they are , a whirrier . THEy do have a tendency to open up in cover etc, working in open type ground one as a better chance of one being quiet in the opening up department , if its a beddy xs one desires go for one with none ped whipp breeding , or a bred down beddy grey type , just my oppinion . atb bunnys. 4 Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Mine has his good points and bad points. Good: feet, coat, drive, quick off the mark, can turn quickly at speed, good natured. Bad: chronically lacking in intelligence, would like to be stubborn if he wasn't such a shit house, poor eyesight and misses loads on the lamp even if it's right in front of his face, lacks top end speed in the bigger fields. I wouldn't have one again. My mate has got a beddy/whip x grey and it's much more of a complete lurcher. That's the route i'd go down if I ever fancied another go with the beddy crosses.. GypsyJoe 36
I have a Beddie / Whip with a little saluki, she is a fantstic little rabbit dog lamp and ferrets, but the terrier is very dominant in her personality and she can get really beligerant and vocal at the most inconvenient times. She dosn't work well with the salukis as she tends to trip them and bring them down in her excitement, but she is only nine months and got a lot of learning to do. Overall she is a good little dog.
