Lurcher or whippet?

Recommended Posts

may be its the best cross for rabbits not saying they are but i have seen a good few in my years in running dogs and a good un is a a treat to watch very hard working dogs and its who you know in this game when it comes to breeding not what you know and i think a lot of people say beddy whippet as they make good rabbit dogs end of the day its a hairy whippet with fire in its belly from the terrier thats put in and i like that bit extra atb troter

Ideation..if i was ever to go down the route of owning or needing a small running dog it would be a pure whippet..not a beddie or any other type of cross breed..imo when you start crossing the whippet with beddies or what ever else for the coat you start loosing the speed..and i'm sure they is no beddie whippet out there that will be faster than a pure whippet..

Always thought you a decent chap  and if you had of posted the above before your birthday, you would have received a card wi money in it :boogy:

Both will do the job, id go lurcher, why pay silly money for a whippet. Whippets dont like hanging around in cold windy/rainy conditions for too long when ferreting, they will, but there are much better things out there. Collie/greyhound x whippet, bedlington/greyhound x whippet etc. try the working bedlington forum, some good rabbiting lurcher pups come up on there.

back in the day when Adam wore a jersey the favourite small lurcher in our area was

1/4 collie ( intelligence )

1/4 terrier (Bedlington or Irish )( gameness )

1/2 whippet ( speed and biddable )

this type of lurcher could always fill the pot day in and day out
