Puppies biting her dew claws

Recommended Posts

It's very traumatic to have the dew claws removed off a dog older than a few days, plus salukis have a high body sensitivity i.e low pain tolerance, and saluki, esp. pups and young saluki have a very low tolernce to aneasthesia and any surgery is extra risky for them (due to low body fat, which metabolises aneasthetic drugs).

Try figure out why she doing it, it's not normal, there must be something causing her irritation in that area, or it may be a habit she's developed.

if you can get a vet to rule out physical, buy some bitter spray you can get it at places like pets at home, and spray that on her claws, if it's a habit that should break it

I thought she was to old ?

Thanks mate will take her in this week

get them off right away mate, my dog is 5 in sep and does have probs with his. Not all the while but enough, right now he as ripped 1 off. I have to tape his wrists when going out lamping, but he done the last 1 in the day, feck knows where .? I asked the vet about having them off, he said 1st its not cheap (£240 quid), as it is big OP , on a full grown dog.And you got keep them of the wound after for couple weeks for it to heal proper, and the only way for that is to (muzzle). So it a lot of agro when older, get it done when very young pups .

I would get it sorted ASAP if she`s that young, i just had to have them taken off my 10 yr old lurcher last week, it was a nasty op, big wounds but they have healed up quick. It wasn`t cheap coz otf the cost of anesthetic, hes a big lad!

But he was ripping them all the time which was causing him more probs,
