Malt 379
Bird i wouldnt argue with anyone who said Ali was the greatest fighter of all time............but for me it would have to be Sugar Ray Robinson, the achievements he made over the time he fought in such a strong era,200 fights, unbelievable wars with some of the biggest names of the sport from lightweight all the way up to light heavyweight.......Robinson all day long.......thats without the fact my father who was a good fighter himself named me after him and drilled it into me from an early age " there will never be a better fighter than Ray Robinson " ......i just never forgot them words and all these years later still think the ol fella was right. Ali best heavyweight without doubt but Robinson all time best of any weight. Gnash, I bet you had a right hard time growing up in the East end of London with a name like 'Sugar!' gnasher16 30,024
what was sugar ray best fighting weight then, some say 11st Thats it Bird yes,not even that.....his best weight was probably welterweight ( 10 st 7 ).......as an example of his ability.....Jake La Motta was regarded as one of the physically toughest fighters of all time and was a natural middleweight.....Robinson had 6 fights with him winning 5 giving weight in every fight....... I remember the ol man telling me a story how in the 40,s Ray Robinson lost a fight to La Motta in early February at 160 lb......he came down to 147lb to win a fight in mid February........then went back up to 160 lb to win the return with La Motta at the end of Febraury !!!!..3 world title fights at welter and middleweight,in the same month .......Ray had around 90 fights unbeaten over a 7 year period....once winning 19 fights in 1 year.....and against great names of the era. He had grace, speed, power and great ring intelligence..........he,s far and away the greatest of all time in my book. Edited July 17, 2012 by gnasher16

onion jonny 526
lots of champions past and present had/have flaws some cant take a good shot some cant deliver a knockout blow but the one thing they all have is the ability to uitilise the talents they have to overcome their opponent plus they must of all have the will and want to continue when all looks lost, anyway the past is the past i,m looking forward to a fight in sept between r burns and k mitchell two honest lads with ability and in my mind there well matched, think i read you will be there gnash if so i may bump into you although i dont actually mean bump in to you as i'm a light weight and i think your a heavy lol. I think that will be a great fight.....for me its the most anticipated fight in years as ive watched the Mitchell boys grow up from kids and Kevin is a lad i genuinely like as a fighter and as a human being he has a great honesty about him and has dedicated himself over the last year......its no secret he likes a beer but he,s realised he has probably 5 years left to secure a future financially and is desperate to utilise the talent god gave him and i admire that.............i speak with him most weeks and he,s totally commited to this fight .......and he,ll need to be as Ricky Burns is a fighter of great stature and Kevin will need to be at his very best to beat him.......one to look forward to anyway
