socks 32,253
A mate of mine is a risk analyst for a very large armed security firm and he was 1 of five big company's invited in to carry out a risk anylisation including threat probability actions on a large number of scenarios covering all the Olympic venues and transport .... He and all 4 other firms catagorily Told the Olympic committee that a civilian headed security firm could not successfully police the Olympics and a global security firm who's main objective is to guard against terrorism or the military should head this up ... But as usual the suites sat on their fat arses in spending our money think they know more than the professionals ... Now the troops have to pick up the tab and be away from their family's sleeping on camp beds in ta centres and cadet halls and getting feck all extra for it ............ Now i dont want to start an arguement but why should the army get paid extra? Think i'd rather act as security than go to a warzone.
socks 32,253
Because the army is Projected on a 3 yearly cycle training, ops and the third year is coming off ops and is used for promotional courses exchanges with other nations etc ... 85 percent of troops called up have either just come off ops so have been away for 6 months and are owed leave or are about to go on ops which means they will have worked nearly every weekend up to their leave date prior to going on ops ... Leave in the army is a privilege and many of these troops will missing out on leave and I,portent time with their family's to act as a glorified security guard so they should be financially rewarded for that reason alone .... Apart from that they will be living in sub standard accommodation eating sub standard food and should be compensated for that also .... Apart from all that do you think they will only be working a normal 8 hour shift ??? Not likely there is no union to look after the troops they will flat out thought the whole Olympics ......

Ok thats fair enough.....Isn't there a chance that some of them will be asked if they want to work it or will they be forced too?. And surely they will be getting paid for it.? socks 32,253
You don't get asked to do anything in the forces you are told ... And the most they will get in monitory compensation will be that the single soldiers will get refundeda percentage of their food and accommodation which will be around a hundred quid if their lucky ... Married service personnel will get fukc all ........

foxfan 479
This is another instance where the 'alternative media' have realy made a difference, without the work of the' UK Column' team it's doubtful that this story would ever have been reported in the mainstream. Ben Fellows the lad who blew the whistle was snubbed by all the major news outlets. The real good news is that this must put G4S civilian policing bid in jeopardy. So a big thankyou from me to the UK Column. If you want to know the real news in Britain follow them here, http://www.ukcolumn.org/

PlasticJock 539
Let me tell you, as socks said soldiers get paid fcuk all extra, they get paid the same whether they're sat on their arse or guarding the Olympics. So... Apart from fuel etc, the MOD won't have lost anything financially. If they haven't lost anything, legally they can't sue G4S because they have minimal to no losses. So all this crap about 'forcing' G4S to pay anything back is laughable. If they can 'prove' that they tried to recruit X Number of guards but circumstances were against them (even though we all know they didn't bother), then they won't be writing any cheques soon. It won't affect them here and now either way, it will slow them down a bit but ultimately the old boys network will come to the rescue and they'll be 'protecting the nation' again before long. B.P.R 2,798
They're not getting extra for it. Socks is spot on there. There's nobody to say 'were not working til 9 tonight because we started at 6' the forces are always an easy, cheap alternative. Use and abuse them and save money. At the end if the day they can't do fcuk all about it.
