Casso 1,261
bitch is off leash, in the back garden chases picks up straight away bring its straight back to me no messin around and then drops it about 3 feet away and comes to me. dont want this to happen whiles lampin because shes very soft mouthed and if shes drops early the rabbit will just run! 3 feet is the distance from us a dog feels safe with an item, its not quite coming into our space and its as near as it can be, thats why tug play is a great for breaking down that barrier, if you dont want to go down that road, ball play or a different item for retrieve with the mutt bringing in the first item into your space for a second to be throw only after its been seen and the pup teased with it , i used to make pups jump up with his paws on my chest with the first for the second to be launched , its take the emphases off the item and makes coming into your space the trigger to throw the second, it makes you and coming into your space exciting and non fearful, hand feeding in your space breaks down barrier's in the dogs mind its a huge one, food is probably the ultimate prize possession , a lot of sensitive pups develop issues if told off for something as simple as jumping up or been shouted at when younger and your space becomes a negative, your pup is young bud, still learning the ropes, a lot of items become possessions in the dogs mind, i would work on coming into your space as a positive in the pups mind, no pup is the finished product at that age, you not to far away from your goal, no corrections for misdemeanors with the pup just try to manage it, we learn more from difficult pups than ever we will from eager to please pups of different heritage, best of luck , 1 Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
If it make's you feel any better i have a dog here nearing 10yr old.. i got him a 10wk's old and he was a nervy thing he would not even come to me let alone bring anything..after month's and month's of try different method's to this date he has never brought a single thing to me..some are natural retriever's some will learn but some will never learn..it's just the luck of the draw sometime's..on a plus note he was a good catch dog in his day.. i can alway's remember the night he caught 10 bunnies on the lamp of one slip off the trot without getting put back on the lead..and boy i wish he retrieved them..
