alfhucker 4
I've got a problem my kits are dropping lite flys I've lost 3 since last Sunday , First I did not have high hopes for as she was struggling and very week tried to help her but unfortunately she dies last Sunday , then I've lost one more from same litter and the largest from another litter , the kits are well looked after never short of water or food feed on alpha ferret food , also chicken , rabbit , just find it strange that I would loose the largest out of the litter . Can ony one offer any thoughts as I'm stumped . Kits will be 6weeks and one set 7 weeks Quote Link to post
28xxgeo 28
Dont mean this too be cheeky but are you watering the alpha down? And not feeding the young ones it dry? Cause have heard of young kits choking on dry food before geo Quote Link to post
alfhucker 4
Yes mate it's soaked in boiling water then mashed up , left to cool then placed on a dish and given to the baby ferrets Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
Feed them as nature intended: whole carcases: rabbit, pigeon etc. Never lost a kit in over 30 years breeding: stay away from artificially produced foods. 1 Quote Link to post
paulus 26
dare i say heat stroke could be any number of things from bad meat to a virus just ensure all your basics are correct, hutch position for shade, clean water daily, all cleaned regular with a good disinfectant, all spoilt food is removed ect, that will only leave medical problems for you to look for. coneykenny 98
tricky one alright ,remove everything from hutch and wash out.start from scratch.all answers above are correct.skycat is on the ball with feeding .and paulis is faultless in his advice.ruling out different problems as you go.id imagine that once you you make some or all of the above changes hopefully things will pick up for you mate is there any other adult ferrets among the kits?had to ask! iWorkChihuahuas 52
i feed my kits dry, theyve never choked, but like skycat said, rabbit pigeon etc, my kits always have dry left in the hutch, but get rabbit or pigeon or mince every day, dont feed only rabbit, unless your giving skin and gut only rabbit can kill a ferret, in the meat alone it does not hold everything a ferret needs, atb Quote Link to post

Tug 168
Are you soaking the dry food ??? At 6/7 weeks they shouldn't need the food soaking anyway. ????????????????????????? The original post states that the two litters of kits are 6 and 7 weeks old. By that age they do not need the food soaking. Quote Link to post
