freddybamboo 0
Hello, I was out with work yesterday just in the North of Glasgow and found these berries beside some raspberries. I am struggling to ID them, and wondered if anyone knows what they are. They are slightly smaller than a pea. Hope you can help
TWOTWOTHREE 152
Arnt they a type of damson ?
remi700 99
Im nearly sure those are non edible. Used to have a plant with berrys and leaves like that in our garden. There defiantly not sloes if that's what your thinking when you say a type of damson. They grow on a black thorn bush and wont be ripe for another 3 months or so. Atb Mark. willum 89
Defo non edable I'd say due to the spikey leaves most fruit bushes like sloes n damsons have oval Broad leaves n not black currents as there leaves a similar to blackberrys n raspberry I wouldn't want to risk it I've seen those about n was told not safe to eat
Steve Willis 1
Looks like a berberis and unedible
David K 172
I would say it is Mahonia Aquifolium otherwise known as the Oregon Grape. It is edible but usually made into jam or preserves, wine can also be made but I haven't tried it myself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon-grape Edited July 13, 2012 by David K
