Malt 379
Rooney never turned up...and a genuine world class player would have. Simples Like Ronaldo against Spain?
gnasher16 30,341
kinel gnash,i rarely disagree wi you but you cant compare rooney to that donkey, rooney had a bad day at the office, which doesnt happen often and carroll had a good day at the office, which doesnt happen often Certainly not comparing them as proven players..................im just comparing them for form......and the fact is Rooney/Young were in poor form and Carroll outshone them..........might mean nothing once the seasons off and running but i still keep in mind Carrolls a young lad on the up. I dunno about outshining them Gnash, he scored a good header but that was about it from what I can remember! Danny Welbeck was the one shining IMO..

Greengrass 202
Rooney never turned up...and a genuine world class player would have. Simples Like Ronaldo against Spain? Playing at that level they shouldn't be in and out, Rooney is,nt world class IMO in fact I think he,s vastly overrated. When was the last time he was outstanding when playing against a world class team ?

I also thought Welbeck was the best striker for England over the course of the tournament. Looks like Hodgson is going to bow to the media as well instead of who is playing the best at the time. Because Rooney was to miss the first 2 out of 3 games he should have left him at home, might learn him to grow up.........

For the time he was on the pitch he was the biggest threat we had i thought and rarely gave the ball away...........if we knew then what we know now you,d have to start with him. He'd probably be a good player in he was deployed in a system that played to his strengths. Couple of good wingers pinging balls across the box and a nippy little strike partner to latch onto the balls off him if they don't go in would do him the power of good! Yep agreed.....trouble is for a lad like Carroll is he,s been born into the wrong generation.......10/15 years ago he would of been a cracking addition to any English side..........today with all the slow build up continental approach id doubt we,ll ever see the best of him......imagine him on the end of some of them Beckham type crosses.
