cocker 2,654
During the middle ages, poaching was a type of hunting mainly done by the poor people, especially during the time when hunting was a dispensation set aside for landowners and the nobility. so poaching is nothing new, and the penalties are far less severe now than they once were, i think if i was a land owner in an area troubled by "rural crime" i would give permission for a "bit of rabbiting" to the hardest dog lads in my area, and see how that works out. bird 9,969
ive got a few gundogs for which ive got permission with on the shoot im on, but if i brought my( lurcher there which they dont no that ive got) i would nt be allowed back on. says it all realy true mate, where i live if you walked round with a rottie or a pit, they might just give the old stare and maybe ask what you doing, i had pit bitch most times they didnt say much. But feck me walk with lurcher that looks of running dog type , they follow you about in motors or tell you to piss off., you got no chance .. And they wonder why people go poaching Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
Some of the land where I hunt/poach you see no f****r between 12pm and 7am, and your nearly tripping over wildlife, its a labrinth of small roads, got lost there a few times when the fog descends and its no fun walking a round in circles carrying a rabbit slung over your shoulder at 3am Walked that way home after the wake thursday just gone and a young badger ambled out onto the road in front of me less than 10ft away... No-one would bother me even if I did bump into a landowner as my hubby lived there all his life and his family are well thought of in the area Quote Link to post

Guest born to run1083
Pulled over by the police last season. Reason - lurchers in back of car. He said - most of the farm thieves we pull, have lurchers with them as a cover. I Remember that mate. Funny enough I spoke to the lady not so long back who owns the land we were on and the coppers did check to see If I had permission. she reckons he asked several a time if permission included dogs Quote Link to post
stabba 10,745
True story this..Once got pulled over in the mid 90,s by a decent young copper and he asked us what we were doing..we politley told him that we were foxing(legally at the time) . We then had the craic with him coz he was a decent sort he then told us what they are taught in police college. His exact words were that we are taught that not all villians are poachers..but all poachers are villians. To this day whenever i get pulled i always have that conversation playing through my mind. Talk about guilty before even opening your mouth eh..atb stabba Poaching has ALLWAYS been illegal, so, technicaly, the copper was right. Cheers. Correct..but the bobby in question meant it a slur as in robbing motors diesel etc etc Quote Link to post

lurcher330 2,301
It's not only people with dogs that you have to worry about, the fukers calling around trying to sell things but not only that asking you to sell anything that is in plain view,my families house had fcukers calling in nearly every second day trying to sell fireplaces and every time the called they asked where my mothers japanesse spitz forsale along with the 2 wheel gig and even the ride on lawnmower and then one day while they where out for a couple of hours the kids Quad ,the gig and they took a brand new harness out of the shed but left the old tattered training harness behind and guess what never called back trying to sell anything since this is the quad hasn't being seen since Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
Since my dog was taken not 1 individual trying to sell chainsaws etc has called to the house, im assuming after the last encounter they know that it will be a most unpleasent experience should they do so. I know where the majority of their clan live so for the time being they are giving our family a very wide berth. Quote Link to post
banjo14 49
popped over to see a land owner thats simpathetic to our game,he then starts telling me of quads and fuel going missing to name but a few.this guy knows me ,but still i could see his attitude has changed a bit and the trust just aint the same he caught 3 of them and they were dog lads .then a couple of months later another couple of poachers casing the joint whilst lamping in the early hours.these guys are fecking our game up i lost 3500 acres of land that i could do whatever i wanted on, just cos some lads decided to poach it and took some diesel. some people have no respect. bedwhippet 164
a mate of mine has a bit of permission that gets poached now and again with the displeasure of the farmer, before my pal goes on he has to conact the police directly so that if they get a call about poachers they no it is a false alarm, its getting beyond a f*****g joke next we'll have to tell em when we goin for a slash and how many times we shake it Quote Link to post
