Fox Rifle

Hi folks just looking some information regarding a foxing rifle. I have been shooting a ruger 10/22 for a number of years now and have decided to get a bigger calibre for foxes but I want a calibre that I could use on deer in the near future. What calibres would be good for both fox and deer.

.243 is a good all round choice. It will cater for foxes and reds, with little recoil and a nice flat trajectory.

222/223/22-250 will do very well for foxes and Muntjac/CWD.

 

If not, 6.5 55 for all deer, excellent round but more expensive if you're going to shoot a lot of foxes.

.243 wssm is my choice but depends on your area as in kent a .270 is less comonon so ammo cost more but 22.250 is very common and is cheaper to feed. Depends on your circumstances and if you are going to reload or buy ammo off the shelf.

A lot of forces won't allow above 22 calibre for foxes, so you'll be looking at 17 rem, 17 hornet, 204 Ruger, 223 rem, 222 rem, and 22-250 rem. I have the last one as its allowed to take Muntjac and CWD (and Roe in Scotland) with it too
