the_stig 6,614
i remember some yanks coming over in the late 80s -- they did kennels tours the works -- went from nottingham to swimbridge to see the jack russell pub and back up to derbyshire to visit greg mousley then back down to dorset to visit eddie chapman and book pups to be sent over ... they said they`d put 10k each to one side for a 2 week trip over .. bird 10,013
i used to have a very good bullmastiff in the 80s, he won many shows and best bullmastiff dog at crufts. He was like the blue print of the breed, he was spot on, when i won crufts with him , had loads of people wanting to use him for stud. Some from USA, Germany, Belgum. so if its a class dog people will travel for the right dog, i might be doing a 14 hour trip for a lurcher pup this year if all goes well

leegreen 2,222
I can understand some what people not wanting to travel, especially if you don't know the parents of the pup/dog. I myself have travelled good distances and seen shite. Saying that the dogs I've got at the mo tot up over a thousand miles between them! I travelled from Kent to Exeter to meet a bloke of here an the man wanted to gift me the dog, top geezer.
sikastag_1 689
I'd travel anywhere in our island or Ireland to get a dog I wanted or a line,or even a day or night out lol, see it all the time if only I was closer etc etc I don't bother commenting but if somebody's not willing to give up their day to travel for the right dog then are they willing to give up enough hours EVERYDAY to look after it? So if you've ever wrote it hang your head in shame lol.
Born Hunter 17,832
I've done over 9 hour round trip to pick a terrier up for a mate, that's about the furthest. Lets be honest folks, it's f**k all really. I would do that just for a good days hunting, not often but now and again. You're going to be putting at least 12-24 months of food, time and money into your pup untill you know whether or not it's a keeper so a days driving to pick it up is piss in the ocean compared to the rest of the journey. For the right breeding anywhere in the UK or Ireland would be realistic. If it's not then how sure really are you about the breeding?

I waited months and months for a "different" lurcher - i didnt want another collie/grey nor did i want a standard sort of lurcher if you know what i mean, I wanted a cross id never heard of before.. The waiting paid off great when i saw pups for sale in the Republic Bull/Wheaten/Deerhound x Deehound.. I wouldnt of gave a fiddlers if them pups had of been on the moon, id of went and got one
