Moll. 1,770
If you think it is bad with dogs, you wanna try selling chickens. It is getting to the point i would rather cull healthy stock than advertise it! I know youve got seramas moll but what other breeds you got ? Ive seen the quality of your stock and it might just be worthwhile arranging for a courier to eire Just Serama Gem, i wanted to just concentrate on the one breed to get it right. It is VERY hard to get good quality Serama, i know i struggled for ages, people will not part with good stock. I eventually paid a fortune to get a good bird couriered from Wales, and was given a good pair from a lovely lady who wanted to promote the breed (Not in it to make money) When i advertise stock i get inundated with people wanting them but when they find out where i am!!! People want my birds, REALLY want my birds but they wont go that extra to get them. But you tend to find a lot of people who go for Serama are not really committed to the breeding, they have just seen a teeny cute Serama and want a pet, the same type of people who want chihuahuas

Chid 6,537
Well I travelled from Durham to Manchester and back on the train to pick up a dog , one came from NI to Durham on the ferry then I took both dogs back to NI using a transporter when I moved ... For the right dog distance shouldn't be an issue imo

skycat 6,173
To Scotland from Cambridgeshire for my Airedale. A friend offered to drive me, as although I do drive, a long journey like that is much easier if there's two of you. Even if I had to go by train or bus I'd have done it without having to think about it. If you really want something you go the distance. I think that a lot of people put 'if only you were closer' simply because they want to post something, or they think getting a pup is a nice idea though they have no intention of putting themselves out in any way. I could be wrong, but maybe those sort of people will get a pup if its just down the road purely because it is very local, even if it isn't the breeding they want. And then of course, because that person isn't serious about what they do with anything in life, let alone a dog, the pup gets passed on when their little fad has run its course. Just my experience, having seen a lot of people buy and get rid of pups in this way.
Carraghs Gem 1,675
Thinking about it a lad travelled 2hrs each way to get the patt bitch pup I was giving away, another fella travelled 2 & 1/2hrs for the dog and other pup
forest of dean redneck 11,608
I think its ridiculous and laughable but folk use the "If only you were closer routine". The right dog is the right dog regardless of distance, you have to feed, kennel, work and live with a dog for perhaps 15 years so surely only an idiot would worry about the distance spent collecting the best pup available? No most worry about price an will only want to spend about £100.
vixen 528
I've had people come from south of england and north of scotland to use my dogs for stud,a lady from shetland 24hr round trip (long route by ferry for comfort of the pup) got a pup from me because she had one off me 20yrs previous and wanted same line, i have calls from america for pups (which i have never sent any over ) although some of my dogs pups are in america through other breeders.................if you want something bad enough you'll travel, i know i would and have if my heart is set on something
