summer lampers what are they thinking

I used to agree about hunting out of season but these days there are young rabbits about most of the year. If you have farms with just a few rabbits then obviously you leave them alone in the summer but if you have farms that are crawling with rabbits and farmers phoning you to thin them down then you have to oblige if you want to keep your permission, otherwise leave it to Myxie or poachers either way you wont see the same numbers in the winter months. We were out last week on a high rabbit populated farm watching young rabbits wandering around with Myxie. I think in the near future that rabbiting seasons will be a thing of the past !!.

will depend on the ground, around here its all barley, oil seed rape and grass that carnt be cut due to the weather so theres no chance of propper hunting even if i wanted to untill the harvest or odd silage fields for a week or so before the grass grows again

Just off out for a mooch with my anti blood 1st cross collie grey, my accident prone 3/4 collie grey and Houdini my problem white lakeland....had 2 valium and a few bows so should be fine !!

yeah mate had him from a pup 6 weeks old, my brother in law bred him out of his lines. He is about 8 in the pic and he is 11 now and looks just the same and still very handy. Thanks for the comment mate !

I go out because i dont like to stop and like to keep the dog's going i hate just walking them all summer it's as boring for them as it is me i kind of stop in july though at night but still let my lurchers run with the hounds for an hour or 2 in the evening usualy bunny bashing i like to keep dogs kinda sharp and fit all year it's alot easier to get them at there peak fitness come autum and winter

Truth be told, my dog was out of action last season when she should have been out learning due to 2 broken legs.

 

All the trainings in place, the fitness and build up from the legs is done and she's ready to go now.

 

We run the lure for a bit of fun most weekends and I feel she needs that little bit more stimulation at her age now- just over 12 months.

 

On the flip side of the coin, the pup here will come of age for Introduction to ferreting this season, will be out every trip and will have a few runs on the lamp towards the end.

 

I'm not dressing up the fact I'm out or spinning a yarn. I'm just doing what I think it right by the

Dog and taking it slow
