Irish Lurcher 1,013
This morning I went to bring the dogs for a walk and discovered that my bitch was loose in the garden, which was a total surprize to me. My kennels are not built just yet, so I have to chain them to there kennels at night and releses them in the morning. Anyway I found the remains of a Hare in the garden this morning, I had a closed look at my bitch and she had been out in the fields on her own, paws dirty and chest full of muck. The pup also too had shared in the nights hunting, he was chumping away on a leg, the fields are no more than one minutes walk from the house, the fact that she was out on her own had me more worried. Has this ever happened to any of you. Guess whats getting ordered this weekend???? Quote Link to post

juckler123 707
Depends on where you live if your in the stix and get on with folks give the dogs their heads a dog allowed freedom to hunt alone can become quite canny with an almost cat like quality. The only drawback is if theres a major road near you as you can guarantee as soon as theyve exhausted the game close by they will venture further a field and crossing main roads on their own will usually end up with a dead dog. skycat 6,173
That reminds me of a show we did many years ago (thankfully!) LOL WE went to camp overnight in a stately home park, had one of those old trailer tents with a big tent cum awning with a zippered door. We had decided to get there a day early to enjoy the peace and quiet before the show. After a quiet night's sleep something woke me at first light: shock horror! 3 dogs were missing: (They'd squeezed under the edge of this very old tent with no ground sheet. I rushed outside and tripped over a neat little pile of 2 hares and 3 rabbits stashed against the side of the tent. :thumbs-up: then saw one dog coming back from way off carrying another rabbit, and the other 2 dogs in the distance attempting a double retrieve of a hare. they got it back to me in more or less one piece. What could I say? Couldn't tell them off now could I? Hastened to hide the evidence and spent the rest of the day teling everyone who turned up NOT to let their dogs loose at all at any time. And our dogs were shut in the van for the rest of our stay. And that's the sort of thing that gets us lurcher folk a bad name: but it honestly had nothing to do with me LOL. I was fast asleep. Irish Lurcher 1,013
Good read SC. She done this before while out hunting, she was in pursuit of a bunny, then she went off the radar for ten minutes, and returned with a live hare, crazey bitch. Macker, if I have a vixen under the shed then its time for Keith and his wonder dog Quote Link to post
